If "wedding hairstyle" makes you think of stiff updos and loads of hairspray-think again. Your bridal beauty look should be a reflection of you. So if a half-up, half-down look or chignon isn't your thing, skip it! Here, celebrity hairstylists Joseph DiMaggio and Amy Clarke share their best hair tips for brides looking for something more unique.

Check Your Sources

If you're seeking more of an original bridal hairstyle, you'll have to be more inventive when looking for inspiration. DiMaggio recommends widening your search beyond the wedding circuit. Both DiMaggio and Clarke suggest looking to the runways. "New York Fashion Week is twice a year, and Paris, Milan, and London provide at least six more opportunities throughout the year to find inspiration. It's so easy to just Google 'NYFW 2016 hair.' That's fertile hunting ground," shares Clarke.

Less Is More

Your wedding hairstyle doesn't have to be overly intricate to be beautiful or fashion-forward. DiMaggio finds the softer, sleek hairstyles, like this low braided flower-inspired bun (below) he created for Naeem Khan's bridal fashion show, to be refreshingly modern. (He's also the genius behind well the floral braid from Reem Acra's show, seen above!)

Come Prepared to Communicate

Don't feel pressure to provide one picture that's exactly what you want. Instead, DiMaggio suggests bringing multiple images and pointing out the elements that you love. (For example, a braid from one updo and the silhouette of another.) This way, you can piece together a truly one-of-a-kind wedding hairstyle.

It's also important to keep in mind that your unconventional hairstyle will be a collaborative effort. Clarke emphasizes the importance of communicating with your stylist. Brides should choose someone whose "art they adore" and have the courage to share their design aesthetic "with conviction." Of all the days, your wedding day is not the time to settle. In addition to images of hairstyle ideas, be sure to share your pictures of your dress with your stylist. Then, "the stylist will guide you toward the look that will make you both look like stars."
