Red wine makeup is the fall makeup trend we’re excited to bring into the holiday season. With red hues reminiscent of your favorite vino, this look is all about channeling the sultry allure of sipping on a glass of red wine during a night out.

Not only is the trend great for date night, but it totally makes sense for the season. “This trend is a TikTok fave because its rich, vibrant colors perfectly match fall’s cozy, warm vibes,” Neen founder and celebrity makeup artist Jeanine Lobell says. “Think about it: Those deep reds and purples aren’t just about wine, right? They’re colors we’re seeing everywhere!”

Plus, it’s more than just a makeup look; the “red wine girl” has become a whole aesthetic defined by elegance and fine taste. Think rich tones to match rich vibes. As Lobell says of the makeup look, “Its universally flattering look offers a pop of boldness that can elevate any look.”

So, if you want to level up your fall ensembles, consider trying out red wine makeup — it’s easier than you think. When broken down, the steps to achieve the wine makeup trend are actually quite basic. Don’t believe me? Ahead, three makeup artists walk us through how to re-create their easy takes on the trend. Cheers!

Red-hot red wine makeup with Charlotte Tilbury

Celebrity makeup artist Sofia Tilbury turns up the heat with her version of the wine makeup look. A red lip that incorporates the warm brown tones of fall gives it a seasonal spin, while a neutral smoky eye balances it out.

Even if you’re not usually a fan of red lipstick, you can tone down the look and adapt it. “This look is great if you’re not super comfortable with a bold red or berry-toned lip — you can press the shades on for a stained effect, and then pair it with your favorite nude-brown lip liner and neutral-toned eyeliners for a soft, romantic effect that still captures that autumnal vibe,” she shares.

Tilbury's first tip for creating a red wine makeup look is to spend time focusing on your skin prep. The Magic Water Cream is a lightweight gel-cream moisturizer that helps prime the skin. "You want your complexion to be fresh, hydrated, flawless and glowing," she says.

"When you drink wine, your lipstick transfers onto the glass and softens from the center out," Tilbury explains. "To cheat that ombré look, overline your lips at the Cupid’s bow and center of the lower lip." Color-wise, the makeup artist says to go with a deep brown shade like Foxy Brown, Iconic Nude or Pillow Talk Intense, or a reddish-brown like Hollywood Honey, to complement your red lip shade.

Tilbury finishes the look with matte blush on the apples of the cheeks. "This is an easy way to make your skin look more natural and youthful, and it can help soften the smokiness of the eye and wine-stained lip. Super flirty and fun!" she says.

Adding a touch of the Beauty Light Wand highlighter on top of the cheekbones pulls the whole look together.

Wine-hued harmony with Neen

Lobell’s monochromatic wine makeup look is an easy way to master the rich tones of the trend. “Let the texture be your guide, so if you want a deep matte eye, pair it with a wine gloss to keep things fresh,” the Neen founder explains. Or, if you’re going for a deep burgundy lip, the makeup artist recommends opting for “a light rose-hued eye shadow” to keep things balanced.

“Play around with how bold or subtle you want to take this look,” Lobell says. “Since all these colors are in the same family, the balanced monochromatic wine look looks great on anyone.”

Lobell says to grab the Swoon Trio of the Pretty Shady palette for a rosy wine makeup eye. "Start by sweeping Swipe (the medium shade) all over the lid, wrapping a little into the lower lash line," the makeup artist says. "Then, take Mood (the darkest shade), blending it into the crease and as a smoky liner on top and bottom lashes, and lastly, add Blink (the shimmery shade) in the inner corner for a little shine."

Neen Going Rouge

Coy, Babe and Pose are all berry-tinted shades of Neen's creamy lip and cheek color that would work beautifully for the wine makeup trend. Lobell says to apply it to the cheeks as well as a little dab on the lips (topped with Glisten Up) for depth.
