Still dream of the days of the Taco Bell Double Decker? Same.

The beloved item was pulled from the Taco Bell menu in a 2019 overhaul (along with the Beefy Mini Quesadilla and Fiery Doritos Locos Tacos) to the extreme disappointment of the Taco Bell fanbase. But luckily, some fanatics have found a brilliantly simple way to cope with the loss of the twin taco dish.

The Double Decker featured a soft flour tortilla layered with beans and wrapped around a hard-shell taco filled with beef, lettuce, and shredded Cheddar cheese. The concept is simple enough to copy at home, but even easier to recreate at the restaurant.

So, when you want the true in-house experience, here’s how you can still get your hands on a Double Decker replica right from the drive-thru.

How to Make a Taco Bell Copycat Double Decker

Next time you find yourself at Taco Bell, order a soft bean taco with no other fillings (i.e. lettuce or onions) alongside a crunchy taco with your favorite fillings. Then, just open up the soft taco and stick the whole crunchy taco right inside.

And there you have it: a chewy and crispy taco creation built with all the authentic Taco Bell flavors. The soft bean taco offers a nice textural contrast to the crunchy, meaty filling inside, while providing structural support to the hand-held dish (so taco fillings won’t spill all over your lap on the first bite).

Better yet, the hard-shell taco will stay crisp until it’s all assembled, rather than getting soggy on your drive home.

At roughly $3 in total, this dupe comes out to a little more than the original DD, but it’s still a heck of a deal, and it makes us want to hit the drive-thru soon.
