All 3 Suspects in Ahmaud Arbery's Murder Case Have Been Indicted
Back in February, Ahmaud Arbery, an unarmed 25-year-old Black man, was shot and killed during a jog in Brunswick, Georgia. He was reportedly "hunted down" by a former police officer and his son, something that Arbery's family lawyer called a "lynching." Travis and Greg McMichael, the father and son involved, believed that Arbery was a robbery suspect. Today, a report explains, they — along with a third man — were indicted. The three men face nine counts: malice murder, four counts of felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault, false imprisonment, and criminal attempt to commit false imprisonment.

According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, a grand jury indicted Travis and McMichael in addition to William "Roddie" Bryan in Arbery's death. Previously, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation reported that they were previously charged with felony murder and aggravated assault. All three men are currently being held in the Glynn County jail without bond.

Though Arbery's death occurred months ago, his case came to light again in the wake of George Floyd's death and Black Lives Matter marches, which sought to bring attention to police violence and systemic racism.
Former Vice President Joe Biden, Sen. Bernie Sanders, and Sen. Elizabeth Warren were among the prominent politicians that called for further investigation.
The video is clear: Ahmaud Arbery was killed in cold blood. My heart goes out to his family, who deserve justice and deserve it now. It is time for a swift, full, and transparent investigation into his murder. https://t.co/alvY5WjdHx

Ahmaud Arbery was just out for a jog—and he was gunned down.
This video is deeply sickening, and the fact that no action has been taken after two months is unacceptable. Ahmaud’s friends and family deserve accountability and justice.https://t.co/XNtZ4ndmEg— Elizabeth Warren (@ewarren) May 6, 2020
The men who murdered Ahmaud Arbery must be held accountable and there must justice for Ahmaud's family. There is no doubt in my mind that Ahmaud would be alive today if he were white.

Arbery's family attorney released a statement that reads "the series of events captured in this video confirm what all the evidence indicated prior to its release — Mr. Arbery was pursued by ... white men solely because of his race and [they] murdered him without justification."
A change.org petition demanding justice for Arbery has received more than 800,000 signatures.
