State-by-state, main streets dotted around the United States serve more to their local community than creating shopping and tourist destinations.
These streets serve as the pinnacle of community that often brings neighbors together through events, markets, history and more.
Recently, three South Carolina main streets were ranked among the 100 “most picturesque” in the nation by a poll of 3,000 seasoned travelers through Mixbook to determine the most charming main streets in America.
Of those, King Street in Charleston was named among the top 10 as the best overall.
“King Street sweeps through Charleston’s core, a dynamic avenue celebrated for its diverse neighborhoods. This historic street is known for its architectural marvels and cultural festivities, offering an authentic Charleston vibe through its eclectic mix of boutiques, dining options, and events like the festive 2nd Sunday on King,” detailed the poll’s results.
Next, the two other main streets named within the Palmetto State were included among the top 100.
Ranking 32nd, Laurens Street in Aiken was described as a charming main street that features shops and galleries, while the nearby Hitchcock Woods, Aiken Training Track, and annual Aiken Spring Steeplechase add to its lively Central Savannah River Area atmosphere.
Main Street in Greenville, was also named in the poll by Mixbook and ranked 64th overall.
“This vibrant main street features shops, restaurants, and the Peace Center. Its nearby Falls Park on the Reedy, Swamp Rabbit Trail, and annual Artisphere festival add to its lively Upstate South Carolina atmosphere,” Mixbook shared.
