3 New Year’s Resolutions to Make for Your Skin This Year

When it comes to skin care, we’ve talked to enough dermatologists and aestheticians to know the difference between a non-negotiable and a non-essential. So if your goal is to take better care of your skin this year, here are three easy places to start.

1. Rethink the way you cleanse. Rather than washing your face twice a day with the same cleanser, consider skipping the morning session and washing it just once at night. That way you can use an oil or a balm to break down makeup and then a gentle cleanser to sweep away any residue without drying out your skin. As we get older, we produce less oil and that first wash may be doing more harm than good.

2. Moisturize beyond your face. Key spots to target? Your neck, chest and the backs of your hands. The skin in these areas is naturally thinner, drier and, thus, prone to aging faster. A quick swipe of lotion twice a day will keep years at bay.

3. Wear sunscreen every day. Rain or shine. Indoors or outdoors. Even if you’re just walking the dog for ten minutes. Being vigilant about SPF is your best defense against premature aging (and, um, melanoma). Luckily, there are tons of non-sticky formulas to choose from now.
