While most people are stuck inside without access to their usual gyms during the coronavirus pandemic, having a solid repertoire of home workouts using minimal equipment is an absolute must. From individual exercises to full routines, we've done our best to compile as many options as possible to keep you moving. Our favorite trainers, like Charlee Atkins, C.S.C.S., are on that mission too.
Atkins doesn't just design home-friendly bodyweight circuits in times of necessity—these types of workouts are her bread and butter, since her client base often demands quick-hitting, limited equipment sessions. One of the best formats she has for this particular need is simple: Take a few accessible, effective movements and pump out a high volume of reps. In the case of this three-move workout, featuring bodyweight squats, pushups, and situps, 100 is the target number.
Volume is the goal, but it's essential to take on the workout as strategically as possible. "Disclaimer, there are a lot of at-home workouts being thrown around at the moment," Atkins says. "I only ever want to promote smart and functional fitness."
To play it smart, she recommends breaking up your reps into more manageable chunks than blasting through as many as possible before burning out. You'll do 10 rounds of 10 reps each, switching between each movement with minimal rest between rounds.
If you need to take breaks before finishing a round, that's okay, too—just make sure that your form stays solid. Pushups might be the most challenging of the exercises, so if you need to adjust your form, follow our guide and elevate your hands on a couch or another stable platform instead of dropping to your knees. For an extra challenge, set a timer and see how long it takes you to finish all 300 reps.
