3 Denim Trends to Watch This Summer
Indigo fans, rejoice: Spring/Summer 2023 collections are dense with more ways to wear denim.
Besides the flood of relaxed and wide-leg jeans hitting the market, designers served leg-baring styles and fresh takes on Canadian tuxedos. Here are three denim trends to watch for summer 2023.

Skirts
Maxi skirts were all the rage last fall, but denim miniskirts are back.
Ami kept it simple with belted light wash skirts, while Versace laser printed its logo on a classic denim mini. Mowalola jumped on the “bikercore” trend with moto-inspired miniskirts. Y/Project also kept hemlines short with washed-down gray miniskirts.
Zippers, studs and floral embroidery decorated Gucci’s miniskirt, which coordinated with an ’80s-style bomber jacket.
Feng Chen Wang added a double waistband and crystal embellishment to its miniskirt.
In true Y2K style JW Anderson and Marine Serre styled denim skirts over jeans.
Double denim
Designers are eliminating the guess work of dressing cool this spring with double denim looks.
Rhude presented jean and jackets in coordinating vintage washes. Prada showed a similar look with a collar-less jacket. Alyx added subtle frayed hems and rips to its classic Trucker and jeans.
Etudes styled a yellow-tinted jean jacket and matching shorts.
Other designers stepped away from basics. Feng Chen Wang paired an oversized jean jacket decorated with charms with jeans featuring button details down the leg. Diesel applied allover patterns on jeans and jackets.
Shorts
Jorts (a.k.a jean shorts) are proof of how all trends cycle back into style. The ’90s Bart Simpson-inspired garment was a mainstay across Spring/Summer 2023 men’s collections.
Dsquared2 channeled shorts’ roots in slacker fashion by pairing paint splattered styles with tie-dye hoodies and beach bum-approved flip-flops. Colorful sunblock on models’ noses underscored the laidback vibe.
Amiri leaned into ’90s skate style with light-wash long shorts. Louis Vuitton did the same with sandblast-inspired washes.
Frayed hems added a vintage look and feel to System’s knee-grazing wide-leg jean shorts. Mr Saturday opted for frays and a shorter length.
Jean shorts were also the bottom half of several Canadian tuxedos, including ones by Prada and Marcelo Burlon County of Milan.
