Lately, the weather’s been kind of wonky where I live. A snowstorm followed by sunshine and almost shorts-worthy temperatures, then a deluge of rain. While I don’t know what jacket to wear or if I should put my boots away for the year, I know that I can find some solace while strolling the aisle of my local ALDI. My favorite grocery store never lets me down, even if the meteorologist on TV does.

ALDI loves to introduce new products as well as seasonal items, which means each visit holds new surprises. After many visits to my favorite store this month, these are the products I kept coming back for again and again.

1. Bakerly Chocolate Hazelnut Filled Crêpes To-Go! ($3.99)

Last year, I grabbed a package of these individually filled and rolled crepes on the way to check out and they were practically gone before I had finished putting away the groceries. My teenage son innocently asked me “What’s this?” as he was gobbling up three out of the six crêpes in the package.

It’s easy to see why he chowed down. They’re sweet, but not too sweet, and they’re individually wrapped so all you have to do is rip open the top of the cellophane and you can eat them without any mess.

To me, unwrapping one is like unpacking a memory. My favorite restaurant when I was growing up was a crêperie, and I love, love, loved their chocolate dessert crêpes. Though I have a crêpe pan, I don’t always have the time to make them. These Bakerly desserts are more than good enough in a pinch.

We liked them so much last year, but when I went back to get more, they were gone. When they appeared on shelves again this year, I grabbed three packages and we’re already down to one. Get them while you can.

2. Fremont Fish Boom Boom Shrimp ($5.99)

This is another seasonal item that ALDI usually only sells during Lent. While I love just about all the seasonal fish products that are stocked in ALDI’s freezers, I just adore these golden Boom Boom Shrimp.

They remind me of a restaurant near my parents’ house, and the shrimp are perfectly crisp on the outside and sweet on the inside, and they come with a spicy, sweet sauce. They’re also gluten-free, but gluten-eaters would never guess.

I love cooking them in my air fryer and serving them either as appetizers or as the base of a po boy sandwich. My son likes having them for lunch, so I often nuke them in the microwave before packing them in his thermos for school.

3. Twisted Caesar Pesto Caesar Chopped Salad Kit ($2.39)

My son’s favorite salad in the whole wide world is a Caesar. He also likes making salads, especially if they come out of a bag. Though I’m trying to teach him how to make homemade dressings, there’s something about a kit that makes him feel like he’s a smart cook who can pull a salad together in under five minutes.

For this reason, I end up buying a lot of bagged salads for weeknight dinners, and it’s his job to assemble them. I was getting bored of our regular Caesar salads, so I tossed this Twisted pesto version in my cart to add some variety.

The pesto in the Caesar dressing gives this salad a bit of a wow factor, and it’s got that herbal, basil taste without overwhelming the lettuce. I’ve been purchasing two salad kits at a time, as my son can eat an entire bag by himself.

You could easily toss some chicken or shrimp—maybe even the Boom Boom variety we like—into the salad to transform it into an entrée. Or, divide it amongst some tortillas with your meat of choice to make a Caesar wrap.
