ALDI’s freeze-dried fruit is a big thing in my house. ALDI’s chocolates are also a big thing in my house. So you can imagine how excited I was when I happened upon two new products at ALDI: Simply Nature Dark Chocolate Covered Freeze Dried Strawberries and Simply Nature Dark Chocolate Covered Freeze Dried Bananas.

They’re a returning item after an appearance so short last year that I missed them. The sweet snack combines two of my favorite ALDI treats into one super treat, and now I’m stocking up.

Why I Love ALDI’s Dark Chocolate-Covered Strawberries and Bananas

When I crack open a bag of their dark chocolate-covered strawberries or dark chocolate-covered bananas, I get a whiff of chocolate and a whiff of fruit. When I bite into a piece, I get an explosion of dark chocolatey goodness followed by the most intense fruit flavor.

Because the fruit pieces are freeze-dried, their flavor is more intense than fresh, and the combination of this concentrated fruitiness with dark chocolate is swoon-worthy. A four-ounce bag of either costs only $3.49, which is only 20 cents more than the plain freeze-dried fruit—and that’s a great deal on freeze-dried fruit!

Of the two, my favorite is the strawberries, but my husband, who goes bananas for bananas, prefers that one and he ate an entire bag in one sitting. My son found my most recent stash and told me “These are really good, Mom.” That’s high praise from a 14-year-old who deems almost everything just “fine.” After he nearly finished both bags, he asked me to take them away from him so he wouldn’t eat them all.

How To Serve ALDI’s Dark Chocolate Covered Strawberries

You don’t have to do anything except open a bag, but if you want to get a little bit fancier, pair them with ALDI’s new California Heritage Pinot Noir, as I think the berry notes of the wine would pair amazingly well with the chocolate-covered berries. You could also add them to a cheese and charcuterie board.

They’d be perfect as a topping for an ice cream party and make perfect accents on top of cakes or cupcakes. I think the strawberries would be great on top of strawberry shortcake, and the bananas could make a banana split extra special. The bananas could also be laid on top of banana bread, layered into banana pudding, or crushed and mixed with buttercream frosting to layer inside of banana cake.

While I have lots of fun ideas for how to use the chocolate-covered freeze-dried fruit, who am I kidding? They’re not going to last long enough in my house to get creative. This ALDI find is disappearing as soon as I bring them home!
