How To Make Cake Pops

Many recipes use cake crumbs (whether from leftover cake, or from a freshly baked cake that's crumbled into pieces), and then mix the crumbs with frosting or something similar in order to form the mixture into golf ball-sized spheres.

The balls of cake crumb mixture are then stuck on a lollipop stick and chilled in the refrigerator. Once chilled and set, the balls are dipped in chocolate to form a hard shell and then coated with nuts or sprinkles to decorate.

Is It Better To Use Cake Mix or Homemade Batter for Cake Pops?

While you could definitely use store-bought cake mix to prepare cake pops, it seems that homemade cake batter tends to result in denser cake crumbs, which makes it easier to form the crumbs into balls. Store-bought mix usually results in a lighter and fluffier crumb that tends to crumble easily when on the stick.
