27-year-old veteran transforms retired school bus into 'insane' mobile tiny home: 'Absolutely amazing'

Craig Gordnier spent 200 days creating his school bus tiny home.

The hard work shows, too. The mobile, compact house, which Gordnier crafted out of a 1999 Blue Bird school bus, is something to marvel at.

But for Gordnier, it’s just home. The 27-year-old, who lives in Massachusetts, drove all the way from South Dakota to bring back the bus, then got to work.

Months later, his school bus tiny home is ready for action.

Gordnier chronicled the difficult refurbishing process on social media, gaining thousands of followers on TikTok and Instagram in the process. Now, he uses the platforms to share his life in the finished product.

The bus is complete with a bed, a queen-sized pull-out couch, a full kitchen and an espresso bar. It’s also got solar panels, a place to keep his motorcycle and a fancy, waterfall shower that opens up to a skylight.

Gordnier wants to keep the place cozy, as he plans on spending plenty of time in it. He told In The Know he plans to travel in the bus for the next five years — stopping for adventures like skydiving and snowboarding.

He’ll have plenty of eyes watching his journey too. Gordnier’s new social media following has been very praiseworthy of his tiny home, calling the place “insane” and “absolutely amazing.”

“Simply amazed by the home you’ve created,” an Instagram user wrote on one of Gordnier’s recent posts.

“Omg! I want this, you’re a genius!” another added.

Gordnier’s new home is certainly unique, but it’s also part of a larger trend. Over the past few years, more and more millennials have been converting to the “RV life,” a mobile, transient lifestyle often dependent on tiny home living.
