There are few beauty-related things I find more uncomfortable than having a dirty scalp. The pain associated with untangling my thick, curly hair? I'll take it any day. Or sitting 45 minutes in a salon chair as a stylist tugs at my strands during a blowout? Piece of cake. But the itchiness, greasiness, and flakes? No, thank you.

Because I wash my hair once a week, I am one who suffers from frequent scalp buildup and flakes. I typically shampoo two times, but even then my hair looks and feels just downright gross by day four or five. I've tried plenty of scalp scrubs and clarifying shampoos, but many fall in the unmemorable category. I have also tried scalp treatments like Hydrafacial Keravive—that feeling of someone massaging your scalp? Tingles!—but once-a-month appointments aren't always feasible and cost effective. So what's the solution, you ask? Briogeo's Scalp Revival line.

Let. Me. Tell. You. This haircare line is it. I've tried a couple of the products from the collection, all of which are great, but I am obsessed with is the $26 Buildup Detox Spray. It's basically a pre-shampoo exfoliating treatment that completely sloughs away dead skin cells and unclogs congested hair follicles, so shampooing is easier afterward. Key ingredients include charcoal, which does the detoxifying and lifts impurities, as well as a triple acid complex of AHAs, BHAs, and PHAs that as Briogeo rightfully describes, "blasts away excess buildup." It also contains hyaluronic acid for a hit of hydration, and my favorite: tea tree oil, which calms the itchy flare ups, removes the flakes, and adds a soothing and minty element to the experience.

This pre-wash spritz is meant to sit on the scalp and roots for 15 minutes, and those 15 minutes are truly some of the most glorious moments of my week. I actually feel the formula doing the deep cleaning and sucking up and absorbing a weeks-worth of gunk, sweat, and impurities. And the cooling feeling is all-capital-letters beyond. My scalp instantly feels refreshed and revivified.

But perhaps the best part of all is the fact I only need to shampoo once after rinsing the treatment out. The Detox Spray leaves my hair squeaky clean with not a fleck in sight and creates a clean canvas for the week ahead. I've been using it for four months already, but I can safely say it's going to be sticking around in my haircare routine for the foreseeable future.

P.S. Don't sleep on the Scalp Revival Charcoal + Coconut Oil Micro-Exfoliating Shampoo, either! That weekly scalp scrub comes a close second to the Detox Spray, and I often switch off between the two. Use it in tandem with a scalp massager. You'll thank me later.
