25th Annual Kite Festival to be held in Camp Hill

CAMP HILL, Pa. (WHTM) – Camp Hill Borough and The Keystone Kites are hosting the 25th Annual Kite Festival on Sunday, May 19 at Fiala Fields.

“It brings everyone out,” said Audrey Logar, Camp Hill Recreation Director. “Anyone can fly a kite, no matter how young or old. We have all kinds of people that come out and try it.”

The event started because The Keystone Kites members needed a location where they could come together and build kites. The borough offered them their facilities and in return, The Keystone Kites helps Camp Hill host the Kite Festival.

From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. anyone can come to the free event and fly their kite, make a free kite thanks to a sponsorship from NexTier Bank and enjoy music from a DJ. There will also be food available for purchase.

“People like to just come and sit out on their blankets and hang out for an afternoon listening to music and watching their kids fly kites,” Logar said. “We (also) have adults, grandparents; everybody’s trying to fly a kite.”

This year the festival is introducing a homemade kite contest from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. complete with prizes for the most original, biggest and which can fly the longest.

“People just don’t take the time to fly a kite outside and this is a perfect opportunity to get all those kites out,” Logar said. “It’s just a great afternoon of just having some good old fun.”
