This $25 Reusable Container Makes Me Excited to Pack My Lunch for Work

Say goodbye to single-use plastic.

There are many milestones of adulthood to experience throughout life, from graduations and first apartments to promotions and weddings. However, there are also smaller moments that force you to recognize that you’ve truly grown up—for instance, becoming genuinely excited about a reusable container.

Dissatisfied with the flimsy Tupperwares I’d been using to pack homemade salads and leftovers in for work (they’re too bulky, prone to leaking, and probably not microwave-safe), I recently impulse bought the plastic Porter Bowl from W&P, and, needless to say, I’m obsessed.

The BPA-free plastic bowl has an airtight lid, and it’s microwave and dishwasher safe. Because it has a one-liter capacity, it’s ideal for packing everything from big salads and soups to veggie bowls and pasta. It also has a protective non-slip exterior and comes with a silicone strap to ensure the lid stays safely secured, saving you from frustrating leaks. Plus, the lightweight material looks stylish and would easily fit into any work tote or backpack.

I’m a big fan of its shape and size, which perfectly suit my go-to salads and vegetable grain bowls. Unlike other plastic containers that are typically square or rectangular, it offers a bowl shape that makes mixing and enjoying meals so much easier.

Since making the purchase, I’ve felt more motivated than ever to wake up early and prepare my lunches ahead of time, rather than turn to the office cafe or nearby eateries, where a salad can cost upwards of $15 and food often comes in wasteful single-use plastic containers. So not only does this sleek bowl help me stay on track with my health and budget, but it’s also beneficial to the environment. In fact, if you bring it to work with you every day, it can eliminate about 200 plastic takeout containers a year, according to the W&P website.

And based on the Amazon reviews, I’m not the only one that feels like a grown up because of this simple reusable bowl. “I LOVE this bowl! [I’m] using it make my lunch kit feel more ‘grown up’ and I’m inspired to make my own lunches more frequently,” one shopper wrote.

Others noted that the bowl is durable, stylish, and perfect for the office. “[I] love this bowl and get tons of compliments at work! It cleans easily in the top rack of the dishwasher [and] seals very tightly, even for carrying soup,” another reviewer said.

It’s also a worthy investment, according to one customer who wrote, “This is a lovely lunch bowl. Is it expensive? Yes, but when you’re sat at your desk eating your leftovers you will feel a million dollars.” I’d have to agree.

The bowl comes in both plastic ($25; amazon.com) and ceramic ($40; amazon) options and is available in 10 modern colorways, including blush pink, mint green, and slate gray. If you’re looking for motivation to save money and use less plastic by packing your own lunch for work, this reusable bowl is just the thing—it’s made such a difference in my life.
