The Black Artists + Designers Guild (BADG) today announced the names of 23 architects, designers, and artisans who will be creating the individual spaces inside the long-awaited Obsidian Virtual Concept House. Participants include the ELLE Decor A-List designers Anishka Clarke and Niya Bascom, of Ishka Designs, and Leyden Lewis, as well as the artist Cheryl R. Riley and the BADG founder Malene Barnett, among many others.

Opening in January, Obsidian aims to turn the the classical idea of a designer showhouse on its ear. Conceived in cooperation with the magazines of Hearst’s Luxury & Design Collection (ELLE Decor, House Beautiful, Veranda, and Town & Country), Obsidian will unite these BADG members from around the world, led by architects Nina Cooke John and Lewis, in imagining and presenting online an 11,000-square-foot virtual home in Oakland, California. The aim: To envision a home of the future (in the year 2025, to be precise) for a multigenerational Black family. “When we dream about living, people tend to dream bigger than what’s available,” Lewis says. “This is a moment for us to show our own people that those dreams aren’t out of reach.”
