22 Dogs Rescued From China's Meat Trade Arriving in LA to Meet Their Forever Families

The non-profit 'China Rescue Dogs' saved these pups from slaughter.

As horrific as this is, dogs are considered a delicacy in certain regions of China. The consumption of dog meat isn't illegal in China, and even though the government has made efforts to crack down on the industry, there's an estimated 10-20 million dogs killed for consumption each year. A lot of these dogs are strays or stolen pets.

Animal welfare organizations, both within China and abroad, have been working to raise awareness of the issue and save these dogs, and one of these organizations, China Rescue Dogs, recently saved 22 of these animals and has found them loving forever homes in the USA.

17 Golden Retrievers, 2 Corgis, one French Bulldog, one Sheepdog and Buddy, a disabled Malamute, will all arrive to the US to go to their forever homes. The rescue dogs will be arriving at Rue's Kennels at LAX, the nation’s first and only rescue-minded facility expressly intended to support safe and healthy international importation of both rescue and owned companion dogs. The volunteers who helped rescue and transport the dogs will also be at the welcoming, which will include a blessing of the dogs and these precious pups meeting their forever families. Buddy, the disabled Malamute seen above, will also be receiving his doggy wheelchair.

Jill Stewart founded China Rescue Dogs in 2019 when she rescued her disabled Golden named Meeso from China. Since then, she has assembled a team in China that pulls dogs from different slaughter houses and breeders bringing the dogs to meat sales...the team arranges for them to be sheltered and given veterinary care until they can be adopted and flown to the US. Jill is also responsible for building Rue's Kennels at LAX.

What an outstanding organization and a truly deserving cause! It's heartwarming to know that 22 dogs, rescued from the cruel China meat trade, will soon find loving homes. This is a shining example of the compassionate work that can be achieved when people come together to make a difference in the lives of innocent animals.
