Your bedroom should be your sanctuary. If you live with roommates (bless you) it's the only place in the house that is yours and yours only. The kitchen is overrun by your foodie friend, the sofa is always taken by your roommate and their significant other hogging the TV. But the bedroom—whether it's just the bed, or if it's also a home office or compact little home gym—that's all yours.
So, we decided we'd help you find some things to buy to make that space extra comfortable. Namely, we're looking at tech gadgets for the bedroom. Not just smart home things, this is a list of gadgets that are specifically made for helping you chill out. Here's 21 bedroom tech gadgets that you probably don't own yet, but we're making a case that you should. Really upgrade your space now.
Clock
We've talked about this thing in depth previously, so I'll keep it short.
First, your phone alarm clock is taking a toll on you. It's actually harmful to the way you sleep. Waking up is supposed to be a gentle experience, and when it's not, your body has trouble with it. Loftie's alarm clock has a gentle two-stage wake up. A first chime pulls you out of sleep, a few minutes later a gentle atmospheric noise (waterfall, jungle, things like that) fully wakes you up. It's a bit surreal, but it makes getting out of bed infinitely easier.
Lamp
Why not pair that smart clock with its partner smart lamp? The gentle wake up of the Loftie clock is improved with this lamp that mimics a natural sunrise. Plus, it makes a great dim reading light.
SmartSleep Wake-Up Clock
But honestly, a couple hundred bucks is steep for a bedside setup. Though it's nowhere near as good looking as the Loftie bundle, this Philips sunrise clock is a wonderful alternative. It does everything you need an alarm clock to do, but it's sunrise feature is a lot better than most. It starts a very, very dim light—to the point where it's hard to know its on—and works up to a bright cool light.
SmartGoggles
Ok, this isn't really a sleep mask. It's too bulky for that. But! The Therabody mask has quickly become part of my nighttime ritual.
Most evenings end two ways: I'm watching TV in bed, or I'm getting home from a loud bar or restaurant. Either way, winding down at the end of the day is tough. So, I pop on this mask for a quick 10-15 minutes of heated massage. Without fail, I fall asleep before it ends. (It turns off automatically after a 15 minute cycle.) It's also helpful for a mid-day stress-relief massage, meditating, or anytime you need to relieve some mental pain.
AirDresser 3
This is probably the most forward thinking gadget on this list. Samsung made a smart closet that can do at-home dry cleaning. It's like what people in the 1970s thought the future would be, like something out of Star Trek. It's a great gadget for anyone with a high-maintenance wardrobe, and there's three-hanger or five-hanger options that fit most spaces.
Temperature Control Smart Mug
There's a lot of Big Idea tech here, but this one, surprisingly, is the most life changing. The Ember smart mug keeps your drink warm to an exact degree. No more microwaving a coffee after you've walked away and forgotten about it. No more rushing through your cup before it gets too cold. This is the future.
4.0
Sleep tracking is tough. More than anything else, sleep is essential to a healthy life. Conservative estimates consider good sleep equal to working out, others claim sleep is even more important than a fitness routine. But sleep tracking? Not as scientific as you would think.
Any smartwatch is going to need to charge at night, and most of them are too big and bulky anyway. Enter: Whoop, a thin little health tracker that can keep tabs on all your nighttime vitals. (It's actually a fitness tracker, but like I said, sleep kinda is fitness.) It's thin and comfortable enough to wear all night, and it does all the biometric tracking you need.
Ring
If even a Whoop band seems too bulky to wear during sleep, an Oura ring might be your answer. We've talked about it before, but this little guy is a powerhouse. It literally does everything a bigger, bulkier band does, but you could wear it for days and forget all about it.
Bloom Air Purifier
Another product we've covered in some depth is this air purifier-slash-planter from Dupray. Essentially, you should purify the air in your bedroom; healthier sleep is the start of a healthier life. But most air purifiers hideous, futuristic-looking monstrosities. This one is has a space for a cute little houseplant, which will do even more natural purifying once it's big enough.
Purifier Humidify+Cool Formaldehyde
Or, you can go one step further and get the highest tech air purifier out there. This Dyson model will purify, humidify, and cool your bedroom air to create a scientifically optimal sleeping environment. Worth every penny, if you ask us.
Wiz connected 2-Pack
Let me be clear: No adult should have colored lights in their room. Once you graduate high school, you gotta give up the purple and the red LEDs. Sorry gamers, but it's true.
These Philips Wiz lightbulbs are the answer to the RBG LEDs that gaming companies sell to children. They have a massive range of regular light—from warm candlelight to cool wake up light. It's all you need to set any sort of mood, and it's all on your phone.
Bonus: These are a lot cheaper than the versions that have the full color spectrum.
The Freestyle
A TV in the bedroom is a strange proposition. It just tends to take up a lot of space that some don't have. The fix, I have found, is a bedroom projector. During the day, hang a piece of art on the wall in front of your bed. At night, take it down and project your late night binge onto the blank wall it leaves behind. Prettier than a TV, more user friendly than a laptop.
This Samsung projector is especially great because it's one of the few projectors that comes with Netflix pre-downloaded.
MoGo 2 Portable Projector
The Netflix issue is front and center here. Netflix doesn't love the Android operating system most projectors run on. So when you open an XGIMI box, expect to be greeted by a little pamphlet that lays out how you actually download Netflix onto this thing. (It's not that hard, really.)
After that, you've got a lovely little projector. Much like the Samsung one above, it can be stored away and only brought out for nighttime viewings.
Motorized Roller Shade
Motorized shades aren't really new, but they have definitely benefited from the wider smart home revolution. Open them on the app, or synch them with a smart assistant to whom you can say "Open the shades," when you wake up.
Catch:3
I've probably told everyone I know that they need this wireless charging catchall from Courant. When done up in real Italian saddle leather, this wireless charger/catchall from Courant looks so damn good. Plus, the three coil wireless charging area makes actually finding the charging area effortless. All you do is drop your phone down. Now let me address the price. Yes, $175 is steep. But if you consider how much actual luxury catchalls cost, it's not that crazy. For one of those rare tech accessories that actually looks luxury, I'd say it's a steal.
Wireless Duo
If you care less about looks and more about charging your earbuds, this is a great option. It's got space for a phone, as well as earbuds. Simple, affordable, and effective.
MagSafe Station
If you've also got an Apple Watch to charge, this is the best looking, most functional 3-in-1 charger we've been able to find.
Smart Moon Lamp
Functionally, it's just a bedside light. But non functionally, it's the fucking moon... And it's floating! How sick is that?
GO
A small safe to keep your valuables in. This is a great one for any parents out there. Keep curious little hands away from things they shouldn't know about or have access to.
Stone Diffuser
Candles are cool, incense is amazing, but a diffuser is the one way to guarantee your bedroom smells great 24/7. This ceramic diffuser can spray out whatever oil you like the best, and make sure your room never gets musty. Plus, the ceramic look is way nicer than just about everything else on the market.
Harvest Indoor Garden
An herb garden... shouldn't that go in the kitchen? That's what I thought, until I scattered my various herb pots throughout my living room and bedroom.
Functionally, yes they should be in the kitchen. But when you have mint, thyme, oregano, basil, and rosemary scattered throughout your home, you always feel like you're walking through a field in the south of France. It's pure bliss—better than anything you can buy at a store.
If you lack a green thumb, this AeroGarden will do all the hard work for you.
