21 High-Protein Breakfasts Under 300 Calories

You've probably heard this before, but one of the best ways to start your day is with a well-rounded breakfast. But what exactly is a well-rounded breakfast, you might be wondering? Brigitte Zeitlin, M.P.H., R.D., C.D.N., founder of the New York-based BZ Nutrition, tells SELF that it's one that's filled with the right balance of protein, complex carbs, fiber, and healthy fat.

The protein is especially key, Zeitlin explains. "Protein is a crucial part of breakfast because it supplies your energy for the morning, keeping you awake, alert, and focused," she says. "It also keeps you feeling full and satiated, so you won't feel the need to eat again too soon." Basically, eating enough protein for breakfast will ensure you don't wind up hungry again before it's time for lunch. You know, so you can focus on owning your day.

If you're not sure how much protein is the right amount to eat for breakfast, Zeitlin says you should aim to get about 15 grams. These 21 high-protein breakfast recipes all contain around that amount of protein as well as plenty of complex carbs, fiber, and healthy fats. And even though none of them are over 300 calories, they're all pretty darn delicious.
