And the 2024 Met Gala Theme Is…

The 2024 Met Gala theme has finally been announced, and it’s bound to generate some must-see fashion looks.

This week, organizers announced the official theme for this year’s Met Ball and Costume Institute Gala is—drumroll, please—“The Garden of Time.” The dress code was inspired by J. G. Ballard’s 1962 short story, which imagines a garden filled with translucent flowers.

According to Andrew Bolton (who serves as the Costume Institute’s Wendy Yu Curator in Charge), the theme was chosen for its endless creative possibilities. “It is very much an ode to nature and the emotional poetics of fashion,” he told Vogue. “One thing I hope this show will activate is that sensorial appreciation of fashion.”

The theme will also be tied to The Costume Institute’s latest exhibition, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.” The showcase will be featured at the Metropolitan Museum of Art from May 10 through September 2, and it will include around 250 of the Met’s most delicate pieces. As the title suggests, the historical items will be displayed in glass coffins à la Princess Aurora in Sleeping Beauty.

The 2024 Met Gala will take place on May 6 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The event will be organized by Vogue magazine and will feature a star-studded list of co-chairs, including Bad Bunny, Chris Hemsworth, Jennifer Lopez, Zendaya and—of course—Anna Wintour.

Let the countdown begin.
