2023’s Best Fighting Games Are Cheap On PS5 Right Now

Mortal Kombat 1 - Key Art

The holiday season is upon us, and in the world of video games, that means publishers are starting to put their games on sale en masse. PlayStation just launched its big holiday sale for the year, and among discounts for games like Lies of P and God of War: Ragnarok is a host of discounts on the best fighting games to be released in 2023.

The biggest discount of the bunch is for Mortal Kombat 1, the reboot(ish) for one of the most recognizable fighting game series in gaming history. The game only launched a few months ago, on September 19, 2023, but it’s already available at a staggering 40% off, bringing the normally $70 game down to $41.99.

The excellent Street Fighter 6 from Capcom, released on June 2, 2023 and is getting a Spy x Family crossover soon, is similarly discounted at 34% off. The game, which carries a metascore of 92/100 on review score aggregator site Metacritic, is available for $39.59, down from the usual $60, and comes with both PS4 and PS5 versions of the game.

Fans of more realistic fighting games can pick up EA Sports UFC 5 for $41.99, while AEW: Fight Forever is going for either $44.99 if you’re not subscribed to PlayStation Plus, or $41.99 if you are. They’re both decent games, and worth picking up for this price if you have a digital PS5 console.

Another game of note – although it didn’t come out in 2023 – is DNF Duel, a game from Eighting, the developer of the recently announced Hunter x Hunter fighting game. It’s a fantastic little fighting game that, while lacking a little bit in the story department, is mechanically very sound and an absolute blast to play. It’s an absolute steal at $19.99, and is normally $49.99.

Here’s the list of games mentioned with links and prices, in one easy place:

Most of these deals end on January 18, 2024, except DNF Duel which ends a little earlier on January 6.
