The 2020 Emmy Awards Nominations Are In

All the Best Looks From the 2019 Emmys Red Carpet

Awards season is officially kicking off with the Emmys on Sunday, and with it comes the start of awards season fashion.

2020 has been slightly different, thanks to a maelstrom of circumstances that made watching TV seem like a national pastime. A combination of everyone sitting in front of their screens and the fact that some longtime favorites aren't in the running anymore — ahem, Game of Thrones and Fleabag — means that this year's Emmy Award nominations are full of surprises and a few very predictable (read: safe) choices.

Variety reports that the quarantine kept Television Academy members at home, so like most of the general public, voters got to soak in as much prestige TV, reality fodder, and streaming originals as they could. Plus, the Academy extended the number of nominees for comedy and drama categories to eight, giving even more shows and actors a chance at taking home some gold.
