Baker creates hyperrealistic cake of BTS star Jimin

BTS Army, don’t freak out. No Jimins were harmed in the creation of this video.

Natalie Sideserf of Sideserf Cake Studio in Austin created a hyperrealistic cake of BTS member, Jimin. BTS, also known as the Bangtan Boys, is one of the world’s biggest boybands right now — their latest album “Map of the Soul: Persona” sold over 3.3 million copies and became the best-selling South Korean album in history.

Even if you’re not a fan of BTS yourself, you’ve probably encountered their powerful fandom, a group that Sideserf says actually inspired her to make the cake of Jimin.

“A lot of you have asked me to make a BTS-themed cake,” Sideserf says in the video. “I decided instead of just making a cake with a theme, I am going to make a bust cake of one of the members. I finally narrowed it down to Jimin.”

Sideserf says she is unable to do all seven BTS members because it would just take too long.

Sideserf starts with a cake in the shape of a faceless bust. Next, she covers it in modeling chocolate to shape Jimin’s facial features. She meticulously ensures his facial topography is correctly molded. Then she begins adding details like the lines on Jimin’s lips.

Using a pointed tool she marks his hairline before she sculpts his hair with her fingers. Sideserf uses a chocolate bust to keep things simple and when the sculpting is done, she uses gel food color diluted with clear alcohol to paint the cake. Finally, Sideserf fills in his hair, bust, eyes, lips and eyebrows with the colored mixture.

Now that’s how you make a life-sized Jimin cake. This isn’t the first time Sideserf has gotten attention for her lifelike cake sculptures — in 2013, she went viral for her Willie Nelson cake and now has over 28,000 subscribers to her YouTube channel.
