Even though Mother’s Day might feel a little bit different this year if you’re not physically able to be with your mom because of social distancing, there’s still plenty of ways to show her your love from afar.

While you could make her a care package of everything she needs for a self-care day or send her some sweet treats from Milk Bar, you can’t go wrong with a classic greeting card, especially if it has a creative twist.

There’s nothing better than receiving a surprise in the mail from a loved one, and while sending greeting cards has been a tradition since the 1400s (yes, the first handmade Valentine’s Day cards were exchanged in 1415), the company Lovepop has reinvented the traditional greeting card.

Founded in 2014, Lovepop’s cards are unlike ones you’re used to seeing on a store’s shelves. The company creates beautifully intricate 3D paper masterpieces cut from the brand’s design technology called slicegami, which is a mix of the traditional Japanese paper folding techniques origami and kirigami.

But what really put Lovepop on the map when it came to greeting cards was when the company presented its pitch on the seventh season of “Shark Tank” in 2015. Lovepop was able to make a $300,000 deal with Kevin O’Leary and has since created hundreds of new designs from a wedding collection to Disney cards.

So this year while I was searching for unique Mother’s Day gifts, Lovepop’s flower bouquet cards caught my eye — the flower bouquets themselves pop out into a 10-inch-tall, stand-alone arrangement when unfolded. Mom will be super surprised when she thinks she’s just opening a regular card.

While you can shop Lovepop’s entire selection of flower bouquet cards in its convenient Flower Shop, the company is also offering specific Mother’s Day designs that come with sweet messages on the front of the cards (reminder: the flower bouquet cards come blank).

Plus, instead of receiving the card yourself first in order to write a special note and then ship to mom, Lovepop offers the convenient feature of personalizing an already included note (that can include photos too) for an additional $5.

Since Mother’s Day is on May 10 this year, you still have plenty of time to choose the perfect Lovepop card so it will ship on time, but be sure to keep track of Lovepop’s shipping details. Below we’ve rounded up our favorite Mother’s Day cards (plus one for Grandma!) to let her know how much she means to you.
