Movie director James Gunn caused a stir on Twitter after sharing a list of sequels that he thought were better than the original films.
On April 12, the “Guardians of the Galaxy” director took to the social media platform to share the sequels. Among them were some timeless classics, including John Lasseter’s “Toy Story 2,” Francis Ford Coppola’s “The Godfather Part II,” Guillermo del Toro’s “Hellboy II: The Golden Army,” Irvin Kershner’s “Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back,” Jackie Chan’s “The Legend of the Drunken Master” and Denis Villeneuve’s “Blade Runner 2049.”

The list heavily features superhero films because, according to the director, “origin stories are often boring and can be an extra element jammed into a story about a superhero vs. a bad guy, instead of being an organic part of the story.”
Gunn’s original tweet, which has been shared nearly 3,000 times, unsurprisingly started a debate among Twitter users, many of whom agreed with much of the list but took exception to some sequels that were included.
“Batman Begins is better than The Dark Knight and I’ll die on that hill,” one person tweeted back. “Also, 22 Jump Street.”

One Twitter user decided to take a jab at Gunn himself, tweeting, “And Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.”

David Hayter, who wrote the screenplay for “X2,” took notice of his film’s inclusion on Gunn’s list and thanked the director.
“X2. Good company to keep,” Hayter tweeted. “Thanks James.”

While it’s hard to argue that Gunn isn’t wrong in including “The Dark Knight” (Heath Ledger singlehandedly carried that film to greatness), we have to take exception to the fact that the director included “The Godfather Part II.” (Let’s be honest with ourselves… the original film received a 98 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes).
