Mom’s clever healthy eating hack also works for adults

Eating vegetables can be a total drag, no matter how old you are.

Jane Stine, a parenting blogger, shared a creative hack she uses to get her 3-year-old son excited about eating vegetables.

She shared on Facebook that she brings a stack of colorful stickers to the store and immediately applies them to fruits and vegetables all over the store. The toddler naturally gravitates to those foods.

“Today we’re having Winnie the Pooh brand spaghetti squash,” Stine wrote. “It goes perfectly with Toy Story broccoli.”

Scientific evidence actually backs up Stine’s method.

A 2012 study from Cornell University found children were 40% more likely to eat an apple over a cookie when the fruit had a colorful Elmo sticker on it.

Kids aren’t the only ones motivated by brightly colored things, either — an entire branch of a scientific study, color psychology, focuses on how different hues influence the behavior of humans of all ages.

So next time you’re struggling to add leafy greens or other less-fun food items into your diet, and stickers aren’t a part of your daily life, consider using brightly colored dinnerware to make the whole process a little more fun.
