It’s no secret that heat can do a lot of damage to your hair, from making it dry and brittle to creating split ends and breakage. It can even burn the toner out of colored hair. If you can’t stand to let your hair air-dry (and who has time for that every day?), it’s important to protect your locks with a heat-protective spray.
Amazon’s No. 1 best-selling hair styling treatment is an Argan Oil Heat Protector by HSI Professional that protects hair from heat exposure up to 450° F. Founder of Juls Studios Salon in New Jersey, Juls Mills-Lutterodt, has worked in the hair styling industry for roughly 29 years. She joined our hosts on ITK Finds Live to talk about hair care and only had good things to say about this product.
“When you see heat protectant, heat protectant usually focuses only on heat protecting, like a little thin coat on the hair, as a kind of buffer to not get the heat directly onto the hair. To add Argan oil to that, it’s like Christmas, guys. For hair stylists, it’s like everything,” Juls said.
“Having an argan oil in a protectant like this is awesome. Most of the time we blow dry with a leave-in conditioner to create a base of a protectant, but this, it’s like, you don’t even need a leave-in conditioner. This will do the work,” she added. “The argan oil plays a very significant role.”

“I’ve tried a lot of heat protectors and straighteners, but this is the best one yet. It doesn’t make my hair difficult to brush or sticky, like many of them. My hair is so soft and conditioned, and straightened very easily. I don’t even think it’s meant to be a straightening product, but when you have thick curly hair, it still makes the process sooo much easier,” one Amazon reviewer said.
Others said it made their hair feel “silky smooth,” resulted in “no frizziness after blow drying” and is “not greasy.” Seriously, each review sounds more promising than the next.
In addition to using a heat protectant, however, it’s important to turn down the water temperature when washing your hair, turn down your hot tools or reduce heat exposure all together by only using your hot tools a few times per week.
From washing to drying to straightening to curling, all of that heat adds up. If you want healthy hair, be proactive in protecting it.
