Anna Wintour effortlessly shades this year's Oscars fashion

Anna Wintour was not a fan of the fashion on this year's Oscars red carpet.

The editor-in-chief of Vogue shared her thoughts on what Hollywood's biggest names wore to this year's Academy Awards last weekend during a Q&A event with Serena Williams during New York Fashion Week on Wednesday morning.

"I know you love nails — years ago, it might even have been André [Leon Talley] who wrote a piece about how you wanted to be a manicurist," Wintour said to Williams, who is a certified nail technician. "I want to know who you thought had the best nails at the Oscars, because they were so much better than the dresses."

Wintour added that she thought Best Actress nominee Cynthia Erivo won the night in the nail department, calling her look "major."

"No one had better nails than her," Williams agreed.

Wintour doesn't often reveal what she thinks of awards season fashion, so her willingness to admit that she didn't love the gowns worn to this year's Oscars was notable and will likely come as a disappointment to many of the designers who dressed stars for the red carpet, as Wintour's word is famously everything in fashion.

Williams' chat with fashion's most iconic decision maker was held at Spring Place on the final day of NYFW, before the 23-time Grand Slam champ's Spring 2020 collection was shown in an intimate, restaurant-style setting for an audience that included the likes of Karlie Kloss, Derek Blasberg and André Leon Talley. Fellow tennis star and pal, Caroline Wozniacki, modeled the presentation's final look.
