Chadwick Boseman Attended the 2018 Met Gala in an All-White Outfit Worthy of a King
Turns out the king of Wakanda is also king of the red carpet. On Monday night, Chadwick Boseman, who plays the Black Panther (given name T'Challa) in the Marvel movie of the same name, stole the spotlight at the 2018 Met Gala in an all-white Versace outfit that included religiously inspired embellishments, gold shoes, and a cape.
Taking this year's theme, "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination," to impressive heights, the 40-year-old actor joined his Black Panther costars on the red carpet looking like real-life royalty. Wearing a crisp white button-down shirt and a white blazer as a base, Boseman also sported ivory pants and a cape embroidered with gold crosses and other adornments. Red tassels connected by a chain tied the whole look together.
Folks on Twitter appreciated that Boseman was actually channeling the theme of the evening with his ensemble. "I just wanna thank Chadwick Boseman for following the theme and not showing up in a basic suit. He looks INCREDIBLE. this is how is done fellas," one Twitter user wrote. "That's the new pope from Wakanda," another offered.
Boseman's male costars also wore perfectly dapper, if somewhat less eye-catching, outfits to Monday's event. Daniel Kaluuya wore a blue-gray suit with a bow tie, while Michael B. Jordan chose a black pinstripe suit with two statement-making accessories: a cross lapel pin and an orange armband, a symbol representing support for gun control.
