The 1952 card was the first Topps issued for Mickey Mantle and represented an important season for the famous player. The image with Mantle holding a bat and glancing to the side is one that baseball card collectors know well. Perhaps as many as 1,700 of these cards exist, but fewer than a dozen are in mint condition.

1909-1911 Honus Wagner T206: $3.12 million

The league that Doyle played in was listed as National instead of American by mistake. Instead of reading as "N.Y. NAT'L", it should read "N.Y. AMER." With fewer than 90 of these cards existing, it's one of the most coveted rare baseball cards worth money. The 1909-1911 card features one of the most famous players in history — "Shoeless" Joe Jackson. This card originally came with caramel candies and was issued in different sizes. Its auction record ekes out at just over $667,000.

1909-1911 Sherry "Magie" Magee T206: $660,000

Fewer than 175 of Sherry "Magie" Magee's 1909-1911 baseball cards are accounted for. Magee's name was misspelled as "Magie" making it another example in a long list of valuable mistake cards. Because this error was caught early in the printing, very few cards were manufactured with that misspelling. This rare error gives the card extra value with one selling for $660,000 in 2018.

1910 T210 Old Mill Joe Jackson: $600,000

1933 Goudey #106 Napoleon Lajoie: $384,000

The 1933 Goudey #106 is one of the rarest baseball cards ever, and the story behind this card is rather interesting. In order to get it, collectors had to contact Goudey directly. Then the card was mailed to them with a paper clip attaching it to the letter (and damaging the surface of the card).

Fewer than 100 exist today, making them quite a collectible bunch. One mint card came to Heritage Auctions and sold for $384,000.

1909-1911 Eddie Plank T206: $106,650

While some cards are rare because they were pulled from printing to fix an error in the text, no one can pinpoint why the 1909-1911 Eddie Plank T206 card was printed in such small numbers. It may be that Plank did not consent to his image being used, or it might be there was an error in the printing die used to make the card. Either way, only about 100 of these cards exist.

It's not as valuable as other rare baseball cards but does pretty well at auction. In 2013, a highly-graded example sold for $106,650.

1923 Tomas Gutierrez Negro League Baseball Cards: $100,000

Rather than being a single card like the others on this list, these 1923 baseball cards represent a series produced by Diaz Cigarettes. Within the series are many members of the Negro League Hall of Fame as well as many players of the Cuban League. Several of the cards are incredibly rare, some with fewer than a dozen known copies. The entire set includes at least 84 cards and is worth at least $100,000.

1953 Topps Jim Gilliam #258: $6,000
