20 of the most breathtaking looks in ACM Awards history

Country stars know how to go big or go home for any awards show -- and the annual Academy of Country Music Awards is no exception.

In honor of Sunday's award show, we're taking a look back at the most breathtaking looks in ACM history. Country queens such as Shania Twain, Reba Mcentire, Dolly Parton and Faith Hill have been rocking the red carpet for years, bringing all the glitz and glam worthy of a true country event.

And while these icons have some big heels to fill, familiar faces such as Taylor Swift, Hillary Scott, Maren Morris and Carrie Underwood have already made a name for themselves both on the radio as well as on the red carpet.

One of our favorite ACM looks ever? Julianne Hough's 2009 red carpet dress designed by Zuhair Murad. The figure-hugging gold gown actually "popped" as she was accepting her award for "Top New Female Vocalist," but it remains our favorite to-date.

"That was one of the highlights of my career so far. I won top new artist and top new female [vocalist]. I loved my dress. When I went to receive my award, I hugged Jack Ingram and the dress popped, so I did the whole speech with a backless dress," she said about her dress.

We can't wait to see what this year's red carpet brings!
