20 Kwanzaa Wishes and Captions to Celebrate Family, Community, and Rich Heritage 🖤❤️💚

Each December, families come together to celebrate the first fruits of the harvest, better known as Kwanzaa. For seven days, a new candle is lit to celebrate one of the seven principles, aka Nguzo Saba, modeled after West African harvest festivals. Founded by Dr. Maulana Ron Karenga in 1966, Kwanzaa uses Swahili words and phrases to celebrate pan-African and African-American culture and their contributions to the world.

Kwanzaa begins on December 26 with Umoja (unity) and ends on January 1 with Imani (faith). For a week, families light black, red, and green candles, organize activities and celebrate with feasts, music, dance, poetry, narratives, reflection, and recommitment. The black candle is lit in honor of Black people, the red candle acknowledges their struggle, and the green candle represents the future and hope that comes from their struggle.

No matter if you're preparing to celebrate Kwanzaa with your family or if you're looking for inspiring messages to share with your friends and Instagram followers who participate, there are Kwanzaa wishes that capture the true meaning of the week-long holiday.
