Unless you opted for one of Peloton’s pairs, you have a ton of options to choose from.
How to find the best spin shoes for Peloton bikes
Spin shoes for your Peloton bike should, of course, be Peloton-compatible. Peloton requires compatibility with Look Delta cleats (more on this later) so first and foremost, ensure your pair has these. Beyond the type of cleats, you want to pay attention to what the shoe is made of — with the sole materials being especially important, says Peloton instructor Christine D’Ercole.

“I recommend getting the firmest-soled shoe within your budget,” notes D’Ercole, who recommends looking for carbon fiber soles. “Unlike running shoes, which are designed to absorb impact, you want a cycling shoe to be as stiff as possible. Cycling shoes with cleats are also going to help you get more out of your ride by enabling you to stay connected to the pedals through the entire pedal stroke without slipping off.”
According to podiatrist and Kane Footwear advisor Dr. Dan Geller, some people may need a shoe made out of softer materials if you have any problems with bunions, bone spurs or wide feet. “Women may require a narrow heel for further stabilization in the shoe, which also helps prevent slippage,” he says. “The base of the shoe should be rigid and clip into the bike pedals to provide appropriate transfer of energy for a better workout.” Dr. Geller advises replacing your spin shoes about every one to two years, depending on how well they hold up with sweat or breakdown from frequent use.
“Feet are often neglected in cycling, and good shoes can make or break form,” says Alex Lyons, a CPT, spin instructor and founder of The WorkUp. “For the shoe, it’s very important to me to have material that breathes so my feet don’t get too hot, as well as a wide toe base so I can really feel my whole foot through my pedal stroke,” Lyons says. “I also wear insoles in my shoes to avoid complications from my plantar fasciitis, as I have very high arches that need extra support.
SPD vs Delta Clips for Peloton bikes
Peloton Bikes are compatible with Look Delta cleats, which you’ll want to make sure you have installed on your shoes before you ride (they have the three holes). You’ll also want to make sure your shoes are compatible with Look Delta cleats before you purchase them. Not all shoes will come with cleats, so be sure to also purchase a set of those if your shoes don’t come with them.
SPD is another type of cleat that is popular for spin bikes, but they won’t work for a Peloton Bike.
