While summer brings the promise of poolside cocktails and backyard BBQs, it also brings the undesirable: drenched sheets. Indeed, if you’re a sweaty sleeper, a cooling comforter (and mattress) is as essential to the warmer months as ice pops and pool floats. That said, many brands claim to use cooling tech in their bedding (even though we still end up with a ridiculous AC bill every summer). So, we decided to put them to the test. From the NASA-approved cooling technology used in the Slumber Cloud lightweight comforter to the breathability of the Buffy breeze, we had 10 of our editors review the top-reviewed cooling comforters on the market (and included 10 other picks worth investing in this summer.) So here’s looking at you, fellow hot sleepers, because it’s time to stop those night sweats from getting progressively worse as the temperature climbs.

1. Rest ‘Evercool’ Comforter
With a 4.8-star rating and thousands of glowing customer reviews, it makes sense why people are coveting this comforter. The hype lies in its lab-tested, Evercool performance fabric, which absorbs and transfers heat 10-times faster than cotton (per the brand). The fabric is constructed with a fully drawn yarn technique that mimics silk—making it smooth and soft to the touch—and the ultra-thin fibers produce a non-stick sleeping environment that’ll keep you dry all night long. “The fabric is like nothing I've ever felt before—it’s like taking a dip in a silky, cooling pool,” PureWow Assistant Editor Delia Curtis says. “Somehow, it combines a satiny feel with the stretch of a jersey knit—all without heat-trapping properties. It’s buttery soft and moisture-wicking at the same time.”
Speaking of moisture-wicking properties: “It’s definitely helped with night sweats. I slept most nights with the window open, and this comforter only made me sweat on the nights I forgot to open the window. … The fabric dries very quickly—super absorbent—and allows me to fall right back to sleep if I do end up sweating.” As for durability? “I washed it on a normal cycle in cool water with the Dedcool X OUAI Melrose Place detergent and dried on a normal cycle…any major stains that were there before came right out,” Curtis adds.
2. Casper Humidity-Fighting Duvet
We all know the famous Casper mattress, and now it’s time to get to know the brand’s humidity-fighting duvet. First, it’s constructed with layers of Merino wool to help wick away moisture, block humidity and regulate temperature throughout the night. “The merino wool was such a smart addition as it’s designed to wick away sweat—and I have terrible night sweats. Ever since I’ve been sleeping with this comforter, I haven’t woken up in a puddle of wet fabric. (Seriously!) It’s also incredibly thin and nothing like my usual fluffy comforters, so I’m sure that helped my body’s temp stay regulated,” says PureWow Associate Editor Stephanie Meraz.
Beyond that, it also has a 100 percent cotton shell that not only makes it feel cool at the surface but also prevents the ethically sourced down fill from shifting or deflating over time. According to Meraz, this is what she loved most about the feel: “The comforter is far thinner than your average fluffy comforter, and it has these small sewn-in chambers everywhere that prevent the down filling from unevenly spreading…basically, this means I don’t have to fluff my comforter all the time just to get the filling from the bottom back up to the top. It’s all evenly distributed in its place and will never move. SUCH a game changer.”
3. Slumber Cloud UltraCool Comforter
If NASA approves of this comforter’s temperature-regulating Outlast technology, it’s probably safe to say you will, too. The 100 percent cotton cover gives the blanket its breathability, while the ClimaDry fiberfill helps wick away moisture, so you stay sweat-free while you sleep. What’s more, it has a more substantial feel than most cooling comforters: “When I hear ‘cooling comforter,’ I think of something thin and flat. This one, however, has a silky, jersey-like material that feels wonderfully plush and incredibly soft,” Curtis reports. “I loved the feeling of the cooling fabric. It definitely kept me from feeling overheated, and it was very absorbent!”
To that end, they add: “The comforter was still a bit damp when trying to fall back asleep from night sweats. Yet, while the comforter retained a bit of a sweat smell over the course of two weeks, it completely came out in the wash. It definitely felt fluffy post-wash as well.” It’s also worth mentioning her warning on sweat resistance: “I do think that the comforter was cooling, but I did notice it wasn't as moisture-wicking as the Rest comforter I tried. I also found the fabric to be a bit slippery, like I was sliding around the bed.”
4. Buffy Cloud Comforter
Speaking of soft and temperature-regulating picks, this airy comforter is made from plant-based materials, so it’s naturally ventilating and breathable. It has a 300-thread count sateen-weave with a Tencel lyocell fiber fill, aka a heat-fighting form of eucalyptus with open cells that allow for hot air to escape. “I don’t know if it’s a placebo effect, but I'm sleeping so much cooler with this comforter than I did before. (I even tested this theory on my other comforter, and no, I think this one is really making a difference!) I'm not waking up in the middle of the night feeling super hot. I still open my windows, but I'm not relying on my AC anymore to keep me cool,” says PureWow Associate Editor Chelsea Candelario.
As for the feel? “It's SO soft. It reminds me of a five-star hotel comforter and makes me want to lay in bed all day. It's made of TENCEL eucalyptus lyocell, so it's very lightweight and breathable. I can wrap it around myself without feeling like I'm being suffocated by heat,” she adds. Her only gripe? “It only comes in white! I would love it if it had more color variety to match my bedroom. I'm also more fearful of spilling on the comforter or causing a stain. Still, I appreciated that it's machine washable—I used Tide Pods to wash [it], and it was still soft and comfy to sleep with out of the dryer.”
5. Brooklinen Down Comforter
While Brooklinen’s down comforter is available in three weights—including All-season, Ultra-warm and Lightweight—the latter’s 650-fill-power of duck down provides that Goldilocks loft; not too thin and not too thick. Rachel Bowie, senior director of special projects & royals at PureWow, loved this factor because it feels breezy and breathable while still being plush enough to curl up with: “The weight of the fabric made a huge difference with temperature regulation. I think it helps that the fill is so evenly distributed—it really has an airy, cloud-like effect so it's warm, but not heavy, which helps you stay cool.”
The down clusters and feathers are also evenly distributed in an ultra-soft, 400-thread-count cotton sateen shell, which offers a crisp outer finish that can help diffuse night sweats: “I have been wearing it with long sleeve PJs and still am not waking up with any sweats, which is my typical, nor am I peeling it off mid-night. It has the feel of an added layer, but doesn't lead to overheating,” Bowie says. Just remember that it’s dry-clean only, so you’ll definitely want to pair this guy with a machine-washable duvet cover for an extra barrier against spills and stains.

The summer weight is thin, light and airy, while somehow being cool to the touch. I think the materials plus the relative thickness help contribute to a max cooling effect,” PureWow Executive Managing Editor Catrina Yohay says.
Cooling aside, it’s also pet-owner-approved: “I have a dog who loves to dig and has snagged many a comforter in the past, but after a few weeks, this one is holding up fine (no visible stitching for him to pull on). I have noticed a few stains here and there—probably from the dog—but those are easily spot-cleaned.” To that end, her biggest bummer was that it’s dry clean only. “To help preserve it [and] keep it clean, you could treat it as a duvet insert, since it has the hooks sewn in on the corners. I don't own a cover though, so we treated this like a standard comforter… Still, is it a comforter? Is it a duvet insert? Is it both? I don’t know—if I bought this expecting a comforter as it's marketed online, I probably would have been annoyed [and] returned it. Still, the functionality is great: It's cooling and comfortable and perfect for summer and/or hot sleepers,” Yohay summarizes.

With a Eucalyptus-fiber construction that’s naturally cooling, this comforter is uniquely hypoallergenic, so it’s resistant to dust, mite, and mold (so you can sleep without the sniffles). The materials are naturally super breathable, according to the brand, where its antibacterial properties are 1). great for sensitive skin, and 2). cool, soft and moisture-wicking by design. Plus, this comforter also features a silver ion, anti-microbial treatment, which slows the spread of microorganisms like bacteria and fungi.
“It's super light, and at first, I was afraid that I would be cold (because I run cold in the winter). However, I was curious because I sleep near the heating vent in my apartment, so I can get super warm/sweaty in the middle of the night. To my surprise and delight, I was always cozy but woke up less often overheating when the heater was on,” PureWow Associate SEO Editor Marissa Wu says. “I put a duvet cover on it. But before I did, the material was smooth and felt refreshing to the touch. Kind of slippery/slick—it was always cool when I tucked myself into bed at night. PureWow Editorial Assistant Courtney Mason says: “I sometimes sweat in my sleep, but not to the point where I’d feel on the surface of my bedding. With this comforter, however, I noticed that I rarely sweat.”
She also adds: “This is thinner than your average comforter; not too thick. The fabric is also somewhat thin with light stuffing, so it feels incredibly breathable. Honestly compares to an elevated blanket.” As for durability, Mason says, “I have two dogs who managed to stain the comforter almost immediately after I received it. I've washed it a few times already with baking soda and the stains have come right out…I am noticing a couple loose threads around the perimeter of the comforter, though.”

Quilts often make for a great all-season option—and this one in particular was designed with breathability in mind: “It doesn't feel heavy at all and its breathability is great for the warmer months—as someone who runs hot, this was excellent for air ventilation during the night,” says Phil Mutz, PureWow’s VP of News and Entertainment. Plus, if you’re worried about how the white will hold up in the wash, he backs: “The blanket didn't lose any of its comfortability or breathability after washing—and the color stays bright over time (just make sure to wash with other whites using a gentle cycle).”
10. Parachute Organic Cloud Cotton Quilt
Constructed with three-ply gauze fabrication and 100 percent long-staple Turkish cotton, this overstuffed quilt is an obvious must-have if you’re on the hunt for something light and airy (and oh-so-chic). Katherine Gillen, PureWow's senior food editor, says: “The poly batting fill makes the whole blanket feel very fluffy. It’s extremely soft, like a piece that's achieved the perfect amount of wearing in over the years (but right out of the box).” Aside from it feeling deliciously smooth on the skin, Gillen also says it’s a great summer option if you're trading out a down duvet: “It doesn't trap you in a sweaty mess like a synthetic fabric would, yet it's still surprisingly warm, thanks to the fill.” To that end, it’s a middle ground between a regular quilt and a comforter, and it isn’t as wrinkle-prone as linen.
Still, while it came out of the dryer looking brand new, Gillen says you should be cautious with its delicate threads: “The gauze material is very prone to snagging and you have to be conscious of that when washing and for general use. (For example, I wear a permanent bracelet that always snags on this type of material, and I have to be really careful with it).” Overall, she summarizes: “I’m recommending this to my friends for summer because it's high quality, and the organic modern color palette is beautiful.
