AKRON, Ohio (WJW) – Dreaming of a May wedding?

How about saying ‘I do’ at “The home of the Galley Boy.” After all, does anything say love more than a Swensons double cheeseburger with two special sauces?

Or, if a burger joint isn’t your idea of romance, how about a Star Wars-themed wedding?

Both are real options courtesy of Akron Municipal Court.

According to press release, the court is once again offering two local venues as off-site wedding opportunities in May 2024.

The first will take place on Saturday, May 4 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Highland Universal Gatheringspot. These weddings will be Star Wars themed — since May 4, or “May the Fourth Be With You,” is known as Star Wars Day.

This is an indoor venue and “Star Wars Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back” is going to be played on a screen as a backdrop. Ceremonies will be officiated by Judge Ron Cable who has overseen these unique displays of love before.

The second off-site wedding venue is Swensons Drive-In in West Akron on Wednesday, May 15, from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Weddings will take place outdoors and will be officiated by Judge Jon Oldham who worked at Swenson’s Drive-In as a student, according to the release.

This isn’t the first time couples have been offered Akron’s burger icon as a backdrop to their vows. Akron Municipal Court first oversaw ceremonies there in December 2022.

According to the release, appointments are first-come, first-serve but must be scheduled and paid for before the date of the ceremony. The fee is $35 for those in the court’s jurisdiction, which includes Akron, Fairlawn, Bath, Richfield, Springfield Township, Lakemore and the Summit County portion of Mogadore, and $50 fee for those outside the jurisdiction. Couples must also obtain a marriage license from Summit County Probate Court prior to the ceremony.
