Yellowstone fans have had a lot to talk about this year, but one bright spot is the network premiere of the 1883 spinoff. When the limited series first launched in December 2021, it was exclusive to the Paramount+ streaming service. Now, cable subscribers can watch episodes weekly on Sunday nights on Paramount Network, and the episodes include special extended featurettes. This news has caused some confusion among viewers of the show.

Country music superstar Tim McGraw, who stars as patriarch James Dutton, shared the news with his followers on Instagram with the message, "#1883 premieres TONIGHT on @paramountnetwork. Leave a comment if you’re gonna be watching!!"

Some fans took the opportunity to express their appreciation for the show with comments like, "This is the greatest story of ALL TIME" and "Hottest couple, no matter what century you are living in."

But other viewers are confused and left messages like, "Wait, there’s more episodes?," "Is it a new season?," and "How is this a premier when it’s already been on? Confused."

Allow us to clear up the confusion: Paramount has confirmed that 1883, the chapter of the Dutton saga starring Tim, Faith Hill, Sam Elliott, and Isabel May, has come to an end with just 10 heart-wrenching episodes. There will not be a season 2.

A new Taylor Sheridan-helmed series called Lawman: Bass Reeves (originally called 1883: The Bass Reeves Story) is in the works. It will take place during the same time as the 1883 saga, but the storylines will not overlap. Rather, Lawman: Bass Reeves will focus on the first Black Deputy U.S. Marshal west of the Mississippi (portrayed by David Oyelowo).
