Bella Swan may have chosen Edward Cullen over Jacob Black in Twilight, but IMO, werewolves are seriously underrated. (#TeamJacob peeps, WYA?) First of all, werewolves are basically dogs. They’re furry and cuddly (when they're not trying to kill you), and they’re also guaranteed to be into astrology since their entire deal is that they’re controlled by the full moon! And yet, for all their advantages, werewolves are seriously lacking in representation. There is no shortage of good vampire movies or vampire TV shows, but werewolf media is a bit more rare, and it’s frankly offensive to those who prefer furry beasts to the undead. Taylor Lautner did not work overtime to make werewolves hot in Twilight for his kind to be treated like this! There’s only one way to make this right: give the best werewolf movies the love and respect they deserve.
We all know werewolves only come out during the full moon, but you don’t have to limit your love of creatures to one night a month. Werewolf shows and movies of all genres, from high school comedy to horror, are available to watch regardless of what moon phase we’re in. And this list of the best werewolf movies is a perfect place to start your viewing journey. So, go on, make Team Jacob proud.
It’s vampires vs. werewolves in Underworld, a fantasy action movie that starred Kate Beckinsale as Selene, a vampire whose allegiance to her kind is tested when she meets Michael (Scott Speedman), a man being hunted by werewolves (aka Lycans) and vampires alike.
Werewolf by Night (2022)
Though technically a Disney+ special, Werewolf by Night deserves a spot on this list. The black and white film tells the story of a group of supernatural hunters who gather to kill a monster, only to discover a werewolf has infiltrated the hunt.
This animated movie moves away from the typical werewolf lore. Instead of transforming once a month, some characters in Wolfwalkers transform into wolves every night, but they don’t lose control or attack people. Instead, two girls find a freedom and friendship they never expected.
Red Riding Hood (2011)
A small town is plagued by vicious wolf attacks in Red Riding Hood, threatening the lives of Valerie (Amanda Seyfried) and everyone she loves, including her secret boyfriend… and the man she’s betrothed to marry.
There is literally no actor more perfectly cast as a werewolf than Jack Nicholson. He just has a certain wolf-like danger to him, you know? In this '90s film, Nicholson stars as Will Randall, an average man who is bit by a mysterious wolf, with potentially devastating consequences for his partner, played by Michelle Pfeiffer (!!).
An American Werewolf in London (1981)
Written and directed by John Landis (of Animal House fame), An American Werewolf in London tells the story of a college student who survives a wolf attack that claims the life of his friend, only to find himself haunted by the ghost of his friend, warning him of the wolf he is about to become.

The Wolfman (2010)
A remake of the 1941 film of the same name, The Wolfman revolves around an aristocrat who attempts to save his village from a bloodthirsty beast, and while it's admittedly...not great, it's worth watching for the cast alone.

Lindsay Lohan makes her return to the silver screen with this supernatural thriller, which follows a private investigator who tries to solve the mysterious murder of her uncle. Oh, and she just so happens to be descended from a line of werewolves, of course.

Lucas Till (aka the love interest from Hannah Montana: The Movie) stars in this horror thriller as a high school football star who discovers that he's secretly a violent werewolf. Come for the fun, stay for the shirtless Jason Momoa.
In Wer, A. J. Cook plays an expat lawyer who realizes her new client—a Romanian man who reportedly attacked a family of American tourists vacationing in France—may actually be a werewolf.
