“Suits ooze confidence and personality when tailored and styled correctly,” she continues. “It’s such a statement to be able to wear something traditionally designed for a man and feel just as beautiful as any other bride on your wedding day.”
When shopping, Keane recommends going for padded shoulders, embellishments or embroidery associated with your nuptials to add a little personalization. She also notes that tailoring is of the utmost importance.
“Choose a tailor who has come with recommendations, one who listens to your needs and ultimately creates something you feel amazing in, while also allowing your personality to shine through,” she advises. “A great tailor will transform a suit into a piece of art within a few fittings.”
What Is the Best Fabric for a Wedding Suit?
The best fabric depends on your location and the time of year. “If you’re getting married in a tropical country or a warmer climate, you’re going to want to go for a breathable fabric that allows you to stay cool, such as linen or cotton,” Keane explains. “For colder climates or in a more formal event space, opt for a wool or silk-wool mix that will keep you warm and hold a more formal structure. You can always make the design more interesting by choosing a contrasting lapel, tuxedo stripe and buttons in a velvet, silk or a grosgrain.”
What Do Women Wear Under a Suit for a Wedding?
“Three-piece suits can sometimes feel too heavy and restricted,” Keane says. “It varies depending on the dress code, but my general guideline is to stick to a maximum of two tailored pieces. If you choose to wear a waistcoat/vest with pants, skip the jacket. Alternatively, if you decide on a single-breasted jacket paired with pants, go for something playful underneath, like a sheer shirt, an embellished cami or a cropped top with a feathered hem. If you love the look of a double-breasted jacket with pants, opt for a chic and minimalist approach and wear nothing underneath.”
What Are the Best Shoes and Accessories to Style with a Wedding Suit?
“I love a killer stiletto with a suit and a fun statement clutch,” Keane shares. “Something embroidered with a reference to the wedding location such as Olympia Le-Tan’s designs or an over-the-top embellished clutch will easily add some personality to your outfit.”
As for jewelry, Keane recommends avoiding drop earrings and sticking to studs and cluster to avoid competition with the collar. When styling your hair, try adding some metallic floral pins or a crystal headband.
