Here are just some examples of some over-the-top asks from happy couples.
1."I got over 100 towels for my wedding 10 years ago, despite only 12 being on the registry. There was a registry glitch, so people didn't know they had already been purchased. You actually CAN have too many towels."
2."One of my husband's distant cousins got married for the third time after having lived with his fiancee for several years already, and they had a $1,200 crystal vase, bath towels that were $100 a piece, a couple of big flat-screen TVs, a PlayStation and games, a big basketball hoop thing for the wife's son's room, and then a ton of really expensive, niche-use kitchen stuff. My MIL printed out the registry to show me — it was 18 pages long."
3."Half brother put guns up, and gun parts so he could build his 'dream rifle' there were literally next to no household items or anything, few baby items 'cause fiance was pregnant, but mostly gun stuff...he was not afraid to let the world know via social media how upset he was with their 'gifts' because no one wanted to purchase his gun hobby items"
4."I have a friend who put incredibly expensive furniture on hers. I asked about it because some of it was straight-up bananas. 'His mom bought us a house. A house.' She said that if their very well-to-do families were going to insist on spending crazy money, she wanted things she liked."
5."We specifically put a $5,000 lego set as a joke. We didn't get it lol"
6."I don’t remember the exact price, but our friend married a woman who wanted salad tongs that were around $300."

8."My dad’s cousin’s kid registered for a $2000 pots and pans set from Anthropologie. They were rich but no one from the rest of the family was and that price shocked the heck out of me."

10."My mom's cousin had a designated registry, where they basically specified which item was to be bought by whom. My family was supposed to buy them a Mercedes C Class. We bought her a hot wheels one and threw $18.93 in the gift box. My cousin got designated the Kitchenaid mixer with ALL the attachments, they bought her a dollar store peeler, whisk, and knife."
11."Metal pet bowls that were engraved. They were almost $300. They were designer, I guess. Everything on their registry was expensive but looked like something you could get at Walmart or Target for a lot less. We didn't get them anything. In fact, most of the family didn't."
