Here are the 17 best nursing homes in SC for 2024, US News & World Report says
South Carolina is starting to show its age.
At least it’s not alone.
According to the U.S. Census, the median age in South Carolina was 40 years old in 2020, up from between 36 and 37 years old in 2010.
There were 55.8 million people age 65 and over in the United States (16.8% of the total population) in 2020 — 38.6% more than the 40.3 million in 2010, U.S. Census data shows. For people 70 years old and over, the male population experienced a larger growth rate between 2010 and 2020 (42.2%) than females (29.5%).
The U.S. aging population growth has been due mainly to Baby Boomers, U.S. Census states.
Born from 1946 to 1964, there are more than 70 million estimated Baby Boomers, and by 2030, they will all be at least 65 years old, U.S. Census data shows. But that’s not all.
With better health care increasing lifespans and birth rates dropping among young women, older adults could outnumber children under 18 years old for the first time in U.S. history by 2034, the Census Bureau projects.
Due to such a rapidly aging population, the need for more quality nursing home care grows each year.
To help Americans make the best choice, U.S. News and World Report this week unveiled its rankings of nursing homes across the U.S.
Out of 188 nursing homes in South Carolina, 17 received an overall rating of five out of five. To be considered a best nursing home by U.S. News, a facility must be “high performing in short-term rehabilitation, long-term care or both. For details on the ranking methodology, click here.
