This $17.5 Million Hamptons Home Is a Serene Contemporary Retreat

Sleek. Sculptural. This isn’t your average shingle-style home in the Hamptons.

A modern jewel box in Sagaponack, designed by award-winning firm Bates Masi + Architects, has just been hoisted onto the market, listed for a whopping $17.5 million. The residence, which sits on a private cul-de-sac, is wrapped in Alaskan cedar board siding and comprises three, two-story structures that offer either Atlantic Ocean or pastoral Sagg Pond views. The volumes are connected by glass-enclosed bridges, bringing the outdoors in and linking the living areas, family sleeping quarters, and guest rooms.

“139 Seascape Lane is a masterful rendition of contemporary luxury and design,” notes the listing, which is held by together by colleagues Ryan Serhant and Shawn Egan of Serhant. Measuring 5,650 square feet, the clean-lined pad comprises five bedrooms, six baths, and two powder rooms. Largely made from natural materials, there are European white oak floors, Venetian plaster ceilings, and rough-cut German oak woodwork throughout.

The open layout centers around the living and dining areas that lead out to the main deck via full-height sliding glass doors. Elsewhere, a sleek chef’s kitchen is kitted out with a massive eat-in island, custom black granite counters, Pietra luna stone backsplash, and an attached butler’s pantry. Rounding out the lower level are two en suite guest bedrooms.

An oak staircase leads to the second floor, outfitted with two additional guest suites, a family room, and the impressive primary retreat. The watereview suite sports a walk-in closet, a private study, its own terrace, and spa-like bath.

Outside, the expansive deck is as central to the design as the interior, equipped with an alfresco kitchen and an infinity-edge pool and spa. There’s also a 665-square-foot pool house that offers a half-bath, a kitchenette, and, a necessary feature in the Hamptons, an outdoor shower.

Because the Southampton area is susceptible to rising sea levels, the home itself and all its amenities have been raised to combat flooding and to comply with FEMA regulations. “Rather than hiding the flood damage prevention measures, the design takes advantage of them, thereby embracing the duality of the wetland landscape to intertwine nature and built form,” Bates Masi writes on its website. The elevation helps with the views, too!
