Get ready to go to the movie theater a ton in 2023 because lots of exciting teen movies are premiering. (Don't worry; plenty of awesome original films are also dropping on streaming sites like Netflix, Disney+, and Prime Video!)

From thrillers like How to Blow Up a Pipeline and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny that will legit leave you on the edge of your seat to Disney reimaginings of both Peter Pan and The Little Mermaid, there are tons of fun movies to look forward to this year. Plus, 2023 is also going to be a big one for prequels. Both The Hunger Games and Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory are exploring the events that happened before the main storylines, in The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and Wonka, respectively.

What it's about: Jesse Eisenberg wrote and directed this comedy-drama about a disconnected mother and son who struggle to understand each other. Ziggy (Finn Wolfhard) livestreams music performances to a ton of fans while Evelyn (Julianne Moore) works with domestic abuse survivors.

What it's about: A 17-year-old attends the prestigious Mozart boarding school with aspirations of becoming a singer and quickly discovers a secret passageway to a mystical world of Mozart's "The Magic Flute."

Fans of fantasy stories will love this new movie starring Shadow and Bone's Jack Wolfe.

When it premieres: March 10, 2023

What it's about: A follow-up to the 2022 smash hit Scream (the fifth in the Ghost Face series), this sixth installment follows Tara (Jenna Ortega) and the other survivors who ditch the fictional town of Woodsboro, California to start a new life in New York City. However, they can't escape Ghost Face's clutches.

Scream 4
's Hayden Panettiere returns to the franchise as Kirby. Unfortunately, the saga's beloved "final girl," Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), will not be in this movie due to disagreements over salary.

When it premieres: April 28, 2023

What it's about: Based on the 1970 Judy Blume novel of the same name, this film adaptation follows Margaret (Abby Ryder Fortson) as she moves from the hustle and bustle of New York City to a more quiet suburban life in New Jersey. This coming-of-age movie will tug at your heartstrings.

What it's about: This live-action reimagining of J.M. Barrie's beloved novel, Peter Pan, follows the adventures of a boy who refuses to grow up and the new friends he brings with him to his magical home called Neverland.

When it premieres: May 12, 2023 on Disney+

What it's about: A kid and his best friends go on an adventure to explore a legendary crater before he is forced to relocate to another planet. The movie stars A Friend of the Family star Mckenna Grace.

Producer Shawn Levy said on Instagram that Crater began from an idea: "Stand By Me on the moon." (FYI, Stand By Me is an epic '80s movie you need to watch ASAP if you haven't already.)

Knights of the Zodiac

When it premieres: May 12, 2023

What it's about: Based on the manga, Saint Seiya by Masami Kurumada, this action-adventure film follows the exploits of a goddess of war who is reincarnated in the body of a young girl. Orphan Seiya (Mackenyu) learns it's his destiny to protect the girl and save the world, NBD. However, to do so he'll have to face his past, which is never easy. The movie also stars On My Block's Diego Tinoco.

The Little Mermaid

When it premieres: May 26, 2023

What it's about: This long-awaited live-action version of the 1989 Walt Disney animated classic follows a mermaid named Ariel (Halle Bailey) who strikes up a deal with Ursula the sea witch (Melissa McCarthy) to trade her beautiful voice for legs so she can explore life above sea level.

What it's about: This sequel to 2018's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse continues the adventures of Miles Morales (voiced by Shameik Moore) as the web-slinging superhero.

Miles will be transported across the Multiverse, teaming up with Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld) and more Spider-People to take on a new villain.

When it premieres: June 23, 2023 on Disney+

What it's about: A hip-hop musical comedy, World's Best follows 12-year-old mathematics genius Prem Patel who learns his late dad was a famous rapper. So, Prem decides to honor his father memory and become a rapper, too. Of course, the journey to superstardom is never an easy one.

According to a press release, Utkarsh Ambudkar, who plays Prem's deceased father, said of the movie, "We are all really excited to be bringing this film to Disney+. It’s got dope music and great comedy, and it brings up some important themes in a really accessible way. It’s emotional, it’s full of love and amazing energy and is a film the entire family can watch together. Plus, it presents for the first time a South Asian family at the core of a Disney movie — something I never had growing up — and was something I really wanted to give young people today."

When it premieres: June 30, 2023

What it's about: Get ready to "release the Kraken" in this new animated movie from DreamWorks. Lana Condor voices the title character, a shy teen who really wants to fit in with her peers. However, that soon proves to be futile when she learns she is a descendant of the warrior Kraken queens and is in line to inherit the throne.

Liza Koshy, Euphoria's Colman Domingo, Nicole Byer, and more make up this stellar cast.

What it's about: Greta Gerwig directed and co-wrote this live-action adaptation of the iconic Mattel doll. The plot is currently under wraps, but the internet freaked out when first-look pics of Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Ken, respectively, dropped.

What it's about: A loose sequel to Wonder, White Bird follows Julian — the main classmate who was cruel to Auggie in Wonder — after he leaves Beecher Prep. Julian's grandmother, who grew up in World War II, tells her grandson a powerful story about the kindness she received as a Jewish girl living in Nazi-occupied France, and how that helped change her life for the better.

The movie is based on R.J. Palacio's graphic novel of the same name.

What it's about: Set decades before the events in the Hunger Games trilogy, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes follows a teenage Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth) as he works with a District 12 tribute named Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler) who is competing in the 10th annual Hunger Games.

FYI, Katniss and Peeta competed in the 74th annual Hunger Games, so this prequel is going way back in time.
