Get ready to go to the movie theater a ton in 2023 because lots of exciting teen movies are premiering. (Don't worry; plenty of awesome original films are also dropping on streaming sites like Netflix, Disney+, and Prime Video!)
From thrillers like How to Blow Up a Pipeline and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny that will legit leave you on the edge of your seat to Disney reimaginings of both Peter Pan and The Little Mermaid, there are tons of fun movies to look forward to this year. Plus, 2023 is also going to be a big one for prequels. Both The Hunger Games and Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory are exploring the events that happened before the main storylines, in The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and Wonka, respectively.
And who could forget the magic that is Barbie dropping this summer, as well as the film adaptation of the best-selling YA novel, Red, White & Royal Blue? Get that popcorn ready, because here are the most anticipated new movies for teens coming out in 2023.
Missing
When it premieres: January 20, 2023
What it's about: Euphoria's Storm Reid stars in this thriller about a teen girl desperately trying to find her missing mother who disappeared overseas while on vacation with her new boyfriend.
If you loved the fast-paced, computer and phone screen-style format of the 2018 movie Searching, you'll love this standalone sequel.
When You Finish Saving the World
When it premieres: January 20, 2023
What it's about: Jesse Eisenberg wrote and directed this comedy-drama about a disconnected mother and son who struggle to understand each other. Ziggy (Finn Wolfhard) livestreams music performances to a ton of fans while Evelyn (Julianne Moore) works with domestic abuse survivors.

Teen Wolf: The Movie
When it premieres: January 26, 2023 on Paramount+
What it's about: This movie revival of the hit MTV series that ended in 2017 reunites most of Teen Wolf's original cast. A new evil emerging in Beacon Hills brings old friends and allies back together to fight a deadly enemy.

Chang Can Dunk
When it premieres: March 10, 2023 on Disney+
What it's about: A 5' 8" tall basketball fan makes a bet with the school basketball star that he can dunk by Homecoming. If he succeeds, hopefully he'll impress his crush and gain the respect of his fellow classmates.
The Magic Flute
When it premieres: March 10, 2023
What it's about: A 17-year-old attends the prestigious Mozart boarding school with aspirations of becoming a singer and quickly discovers a secret passageway to a mystical world of Mozart's "The Magic Flute."
Fans of fantasy stories will love this new movie starring Shadow and Bone's Jack Wolfe.
Scream VI
When it premieres: March 10, 2023
What it's about: A follow-up to the 2022 smash hit Scream (the fifth in the Ghost Face series), this sixth installment follows Tara (Jenna Ortega) and the other survivors who ditch the fictional town of Woodsboro, California to start a new life in New York City. However, they can't escape Ghost Face's clutches.
Scream 4's Hayden Panettiere returns to the franchise as Kirby. Unfortunately, the saga's beloved "final girl," Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), will not be in this movie due to disagreements over salary.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods
When it premieres: March 17, 2023
What it's about: A sequel to the 2019 smash hit, Shazam!, this movie continues the adventures of Billy Batson (Asher Angel), who can turn into his superhero alter ego (Zachary Levi) when he says the magic word, and his ragtag group of foster brothers and sisters.
Prom Pact
When it premieres: March 30, 2023 on Disney Channel and March 31, 2023 on Disney+
What it's about: This teen rom-com follows BFFs Mandy (Peyton Elizabeth Lee) and Ben (Milo Manheim) who are surrounded by their classmates' over-the-top promposals. Mandy only has her eyes on getting into Harvard, but when she's waitlisted, she begrudgingly asks popular guy Graham (Blake Draper) — whose father has connections — for help.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie
When it premieres: April 5, 2023
What it's about: You're never too old for Nintendo! Join Mario (voiced by Chris Pratt), Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy) and his friends as they take on the villainous Bowser (Jack Black) in this animated movie based on the the beloved video game characters.
How to Blow Up a Pipeline
When it premieres: April 7, 2023
What it's about: Adapted from Andreas Malm's book of the same name, thriller stars Euphoria and The White Lotus actor Lukas Gage as one of eight environmental activists who band together in West Texas to sabotage the development of an oil pipeline.
Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret
When it premieres: April 28, 2023
What it's about: Based on the 1970 Judy Blume novel of the same name, this film adaptation follows Margaret (Abby Ryder Fortson) as she moves from the hustle and bustle of New York City to a more quiet suburban life in New Jersey. This coming-of-age movie will tug at your heartstrings.
Peter Pan & Wendy
When it premieres: April 28, 2023 on Disney+
What it's about: This live-action reimagining of J.M. Barrie's beloved novel, Peter Pan, follows the adventures of a boy who refuses to grow up and the new friends he brings with him to his magical home called Neverland.
Crater
When it premieres: May 12, 2023 on Disney+
What it's about: A kid and his best friends go on an adventure to explore a legendary crater before he is forced to relocate to another planet. The movie stars A Friend of the Family star Mckenna Grace.
Producer Shawn Levy said on Instagram that Crater began from an idea: "Stand By Me on the moon." (FYI, Stand By Me is an epic '80s movie you need to watch ASAP if you haven't already.)
Knights of the Zodiac
When it premieres: May 12, 2023
What it's about: Based on the manga, Saint Seiya by Masami Kurumada, this action-adventure film follows the exploits of a goddess of war who is reincarnated in the body of a young girl. Orphan Seiya (Mackenyu) learns it's his destiny to protect the girl and save the world, NBD. However, to do so he'll have to face his past, which is never easy. The movie also stars On My Block's Diego Tinoco.
The Little Mermaid
When it premieres: May 26, 2023
What it's about: This long-awaited live-action version of the 1989 Walt Disney animated classic follows a mermaid named Ariel (Halle Bailey) who strikes up a deal with Ursula the sea witch (Melissa McCarthy) to trade her beautiful voice for legs so she can explore life above sea level.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
When it premieres: June 2, 2023
What it's about: This sequel to 2018's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse continues the adventures of Miles Morales (voiced by Shameik Moore) as the web-slinging superhero.
Miles will be transported across the Multiverse, teaming up with Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld) and more Spider-People to take on a new villain.

World's Best
When it premieres: June 23, 2023 on Disney+
What it's about: A hip-hop musical comedy, World's Best follows 12-year-old mathematics genius Prem Patel who learns his late dad was a famous rapper. So, Prem decides to honor his father memory and become a rapper, too. Of course, the journey to superstardom is never an easy one.
According to a press release, Utkarsh Ambudkar, who plays Prem's deceased father, said of the movie, "We are all really excited to be bringing this film to Disney+. It’s got dope music and great comedy, and it brings up some important themes in a really accessible way. It’s emotional, it’s full of love and amazing energy and is a film the entire family can watch together. Plus, it presents for the first time a South Asian family at the core of a Disney movie — something I never had growing up — and was something I really wanted to give young people today."
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny
When it premieres: June 30, 2023
What it's about: Our favorite archaeologist is at it again with a new adventure in the fifth installment of this franchise. Details about the plot are under wraps for now.

Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken
When it premieres: June 30, 2023
What it's about: Get ready to "release the Kraken" in this new animated movie from DreamWorks. Lana Condor voices the title character, a shy teen who really wants to fit in with her peers. However, that soon proves to be futile when she learns she is a descendant of the warrior Kraken queens and is in line to inherit the throne.
Liza Koshy, Euphoria's Colman Domingo, Nicole Byer, and more make up this stellar cast.
Barbie
When it premieres: July 21, 2023
What it's about: Greta Gerwig directed and co-wrote this live-action adaptation of the iconic Mattel doll. The plot is currently under wraps, but the internet freaked out when first-look pics of Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Ken, respectively, dropped.

After an international scandal rocks the world, the once-feuding foes must work together to undo the damage. But things become complicated when they start to catch feelings.

Blue Beetle

What it's about: Based on the DC Comics of the same name, Blue Beetle is about a Mexican-American teen who stumbles upon an alien beetle that inadvertently gives him superpower armor.
White Bird
When it premieres: August 18, 2023 in select theaters, August 25, 2023 in theaters everywhere
What it's about: A loose sequel to Wonder, White Bird follows Julian — the main classmate who was cruel to Auggie in Wonder — after he leaves Beecher Prep. Julian's grandmother, who grew up in World War II, tells her grandson a powerful story about the kindness she received as a Jewish girl living in Nazi-occupied France, and how that helped change her life for the better.
The movie is based on R.J. Palacio's graphic novel of the same name.
Bottoms

What it's about: Two queer students who want to have sex with their crushes before graduation start a flight club at their high school.
Challengers
When it premieres: September 15, 2023
What it's about: Zendaya stars in this romance drama about three gifted tennis players in a love triangle who go through serious drama both on and off the court.
The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes
When it premieres: November 17, 2023
What it's about: Set decades before the events in the Hunger Games trilogy, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes follows a teenage Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth) as he works with a District 12 tribute named Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler) who is competing in the 10th annual Hunger Games.
FYI, Katniss and Peeta competed in the 74th annual Hunger Games, so this prequel is going way back in time.

Untitled Ghostbusters Afterlife Sequel

What it's about: This sequel to 2021's Ghostbusters: Afterlife takes the characters from Oklahoma to the place where all the drama in this franchise began: New York City.
Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Paul Rudd, and Carrie Coon all reprise their roles.

Legally Blonde 3
When it premieres: TBD 2023
What it's about: Premiering 20 years after the second Legally Blonde film, this third installment's plot is under wraps right now.
However, we do know that both Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Coolidge are reprising their roles as Elle Woods and Paulette Parcelle, respectively.
