From private jets to elaborate sprinkler systems, wealth comes with a lot of perks. However, those things don't just cost money — they're often at the expense of the environment, too.

Here are 15 celebs who were called out for being wasteful:

1.In 2015, Tom Selleck was accused of stealing water from a public fire hydrant in a district he didn't live in to use on his Hidden Valley ranch during a drought. The Calleguas Municipal Water District hired a private investigator, who found a white truck repeatedly taking water from the fire hydrant, then delivering it to the actor's property.

The water district filed a lawsuit against Selleck, who settled with them for $21,685.55, covering the amount they spent on the PI.

2.In 2022, Kylie Jenner faced backlash after making an Instagram post showing off that she and her then-partner, Travis Scott, both owned private jets. She was branded "a full time climate criminal" because such planes can emit two tons of CO2 in an hour. Digging further, fans discovered that her jet had been used for flights less than 15 minutes long.

80% of people have never taken a plane and Kylie Jenner is out here taking regular 10 minute flights, 5 flights in the last week under 30 minutes, one was 3 minutes long. Her carbon footprint for one ten minute flight, is more than some people make in a year.

3.Similarly, Taylor Swift faced criticism after a report from the digital marketing agency Yard named her as the celebrity with the highest level of CO2 emissions from a private jet in 2022. In just seven months, her plane emitted more CO2 than 1,184 people would, on average, in a year.

In response to the backlash, her team released a statement to BuzzFeed News, which said, "Taylor's jet is loaned out regularly to other individuals. To attribute most or all of these trips to her is blatantly incorrect."

4.Drake also faced criticism after Celeb Jets reported that his private jet regularly took flights less than 15 minutes long. Responding on Instagram, he said, "This is just them moving planes to whatever airport they are being stored at for anyone who was interested in the logistics...nobody takes that flight."

Addressing Drake's comment, Center for Biological Diversity’s Climate Law Institute lawyer Scott Hochberg told the Guardian, "Drake's living in his own meme if he thinks an empty private jet flight is better than a wasteful one with a celebrity on board. This is a prime example of wasteful carbon emissions leading to even more wasteful carbon emissions...Ultra-short, non-essential flying only multiplies the journey's climate impacts, and we hope celebrities will wake up to the damaging impact of their frivolous flying."

5.In a jokey 2023 Instagram video, JoJo Siwa poured milk all over her counter, pretending she'd forgotten she was fixing a bowl of cereal while daydreaming about Miley Cyrus's "Flowers" music video. In the comments, fans called her out for wasting food.

In response to the criticism, Kardashian decided to rewear a dress she'd previously worn to an event in 2011 to her sister's wedding.

Sharing this fact on Twitter, she wrote, "I know you guys just saw me in my [archive] on last week's episode of The Kardashians! I have every piece photographed and on an app. So, when I knew I was going to Italy (LOVE a theme for a trip), I pulled all my Dolce & Gabbana clothes to try on again and see if I could re-wear anything!"

7.During a southern California drought in 2022, the Las Virgenes Municipal Water District issued "notices of exceedance" regarding water usage to over 2,000 residents, including Kim Kardashian. Her house in Hidden Hills and the adjacent lot went over their June water allotment by 232,000 gallons combined.

9.Sylvester Stallone and Jennifer Flavin also received a notice for their $18-million Hidden Hills property in 2022. They reportedly used 195,000 excess gallons of water that May, then increased to 230,000 excess gallons in June.

In a statement to the LA Times, their lawyer, Marty Singer, said, "They have more than 500 mature trees on the property, including innumerable fruit trees as well as pine trees. Absent adequate watering, in all likelihood they would die. That could result in dead or damaged trees falling on my client's property or neighboring properties. My client has been addressing the situation responsibly and proactively. They have let grasses die, and other areas are watered by a drip irrigation system. They also notified the city regarding the mature trees, and are awaiting an inspection and further instruction from the city about how to proceed. I am confident that all of the larger properties in the area have similar issues. I therefore trust that my client will not be unfairly singled out in the story because he is a famous person."

10.Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union received a notice of exceedance as well. In May 2022, their $18-million Hidden Hills property went over its water budget by more than any of their utility company's other customers — 489,000 gallons. In June, they cut back significantly, only exceeding their allotment by 90,000 gallons. The blamed the overuse of water on an issue with their pool.

In a statement, they told the LA Times, "[We have] taken drastic steps to reduce water usage in accordance with the new city guidelines and have since we moved into our home. We have been doing everything we can to rectify the situation and will continue to go to extensive lengths to resolve the issue. We have replaced all parts of our pool system that [have] to do with water flow and leakage in addition to converting to synthetic grass and drought tolerant plants to reduce our water usage. We will continue to work with the city and the water distribution company to make sure this isn't an issue moving forward."

11.Kevin Hart was also among those who received a notice because his Calabasas property used an excessive 117,000 gallons of water in June 2022.

She also called the video the "biggest mistake" of her career.
