Getting Started

  • Find a quiet place to sit comfortably upright—at the edge of your bed, on the floor, or in a chair

  • Close your eyes and tune into the breath or another point of focus to be fully present

  • Relax your body—loosen your shoulders, unclench your jaw, and soften your brows

We've often been told that in order to love others, we need to love ourselves first. But what does that even look like? What does loving ourselves mean? And how do we know when we've reached that level of self-compassion? This meditation is meant to explore all of those questions and more.

As the video states, think about how you feel when you look at a child, your best friend, or even an elder. You know instinctively in your heart that they deserve safety, nurturing, and love. Now, let's practice turning that sense of worthiness onto ourselves. You can think to yourself or say the following out loud: I am worthy of love and capable of loving. I am worthy of love and capable of loving. I am worthy of love and capable of loving. I am worthy of love and capable of loving. I am worthy of love and capable of loving.

Remember, there is no right or wrong way to feel about this. Notice the sensations that come up for you, and sit with these words for as long as you need. If you feel discomfort, that's OK, too. Just know that you can always return to this place of love and worthiness.
