And that community is a large and growing one. According to the most recent U.S. Census (which we have to acknowledge likely still undercounts LGBTQ people and their families), there are approximately 10.7 million LGBTQ adults in the United States. About 1.4 million adults in the U.S. identify as transgender, and around half of LGBTQ adults identify as bisexual. That same data shows that almost 1.1 million LGBTQ people in the U.S. are married to someone of the same sex, a number that's steadily increasing.
