She adds that using harsh ingredients may lead to removing your mat's coating, which is designed to prevent slippage while you sweat. Once your mat is clean, allow it to air dry before rolling it up, so now moisture remains, which can interfere with your mat's overall grip.

How should a yoga mat be stored?

Barr says once your yoga mat is clean and dry, roll it together with the top surface facing out, and store the mat in a cool, dry area. She advises not to leave rubber mats exposed to excessive amounts of sunlight, as it may cause them to oxidize and fade.
