14-year-old bakes and sells 3,500 cupcakes to pay for family's Disney World trip

A 14-year-old boy from Minnesota was able to raise enough money by selling cupcakes that he could pay for a trip to Disney World. In fact, Isaiah Tuckett, of Madison, sold so many cupcakes he was able to pay for his mother, father, brother, sister, sister-in-law, nephew and uncle to come along as well.

Tuckett baked around 3,500 cupcakes and was able to raise $5,000 over the course of a year, according to FOX2.

"When I was growing up, I always liked being in the kitchen," the teenager explained, adding that he's been baking desserts since he was seven.

The trip, which was for his 14th birthday on Nov. 28, 2018, had been put off by his family previously. They would either say "no," or "ask a different time," according to Tuckett. So he decided to raise money for the trip himself — an idea he got after baking cupcakes for his grandmother's 85h birthday.

"People really liked them, and they just asked if they could order them," he said. Soon, he was taking orders for every celebration from birthdays to weddings to prom to funerals.

"After he made them for my mom's 85th birthday, it just kind of took off from there. And he's always wanted to go to Disney, and once the orders started coming in, we had this conversation," Tuckett's mom, Cheri Tuckett, said. "And I said, 'you know what, if that's something that you want to do, we would be willing to buy all the ingredients and so that everything that you earn...your profits, could be put into a savings account to earn that trip.'"

"It was really exciting," Tuckett said about his family being able to join him at the Happiest Place on Earth. "I was glad that it was everyone, and I felt like everyone was happy that they got to go."

It also helped Tuckett realize that when he sets a goal, he can accomplish it. Next, he hopes his cupcake business will afford him a blue pickup truck so that he can deliver more desserts.

"I just feel like it says a lot about his character, and his determination," his mother said. "I'm just really proud of him and who he is."
