We're not sure who decided that less (coverage) is more (fashionable) when it comes to swimwear, but we would like a word with them. With all due respect to the itty bitty micro bikini beloved by stars like Kendall Jenner and Emily Ratajkowski, sexy one-piece swimsuits have entered the chat. In fact, at this year's Paraiso Swim Week in Miami, some of the hottest suits to walk down the runway were *gasp* one-piece swimsuits.

While there is always fun to be had in a bikini, one-piece suits have been slept on for far too long. In fact, when it comes to this year's swim trends, it looks like one-piece suits might do everything bikinis can, only better.

A halter bikini top offers all the customizable styling options of a triangle bikini top with the security and coverage of a one-piece. When trying on a halter one-piece suit, try wearing the straps in a number of different ways (one of the many perks of a halter) to ensure it'll stay comfortable, no matter how you style it.

It doesn't get sexier or more snuggly supportive than a lace-up one-piece suit. We recommend looking for suits with adjustable lacing so you can be utterly snatched or fully relaxed depending on the occasion.

Draped One-Piece Suits

One-piece suits with draped and ruched tops are bringing an eveningwear sensibility to the beach and we couldn't be happier. A draped swimsuit is, more or less, the antithesis of the micro-triangle bikini top, but still serves a healthy dose of come-hither energy.

Low-Back Once-Piece Suits

Shop Similar: GiGi C Gianna One-Piece, $155.
For those who prefer maximum support and coverage at the front of your swimwear, there's still plenty of sultry fun to be had with design details on the backs of one-piece swimsuits. In many cases, backless swimsuits allow you to show skin without compromising comfort or support, too.

Belted One-Piece Suits

Shop Similar: Simkhai Noa Belted One-Piece, $98.
Sure, a swimsuit belt won't cinch you the way a regular belt will, but this design element highlights curves in a beautiful way.

Zipper One-Pieces Suits

Shop Similar: Hermoza Margaret One-Piece Swimsuit, $158.
One-piece swimsuits with zippers are equal parts athletic and retro. We recommend looking for zipper one-piece suits from activewear brands, as many of them use compression fabric that sculpts with movement in mind.

Strapless One-Pieces Suits

Shop Similar: Sinesia Karol Ximena One Piece, $150.
Strapless one-piece suits can be hit-or-miss, which is why we love a bandeau style with a tie-waist. The adjustable strappy section allows you to be as cinched in or loosely held as you like.

Shop Similar: TA3 Hi Cut Plungey One-Piece Swimsuit, $178.
Trust us, there's no such thing as being too busty for a plunging one-piece swimsuit, especially if you leave fit to the professionals. Brands like TA3, makers of the viral one-piece suit, make deep-V suits with built-in bra shelves so you can strut while supported.

Shop Similar: Bikini Bible GIGI One-Piece Swimsuit, $142.
As the suits that came down the Axil Swim runway prove, cutouts don't have to mean a lack of support or coverage. We recommend looking for thicker fabrics if you're on the hunt for a cutout one-piece that won't leave you worried about a nip slip.

Lingerie-Inspired One-Piece Suits

Delicate, feminine details like lace, caging, and frilled or ruched bust cups that make lingerie so much fun to wear have made their way into the world of swim. A lingerie-inspired one-piece that mimics a bustier dials up the heat without leaving you completely bare.

Retro-ish boy-short suits have the same playful energy of cheekier swimsuit bottoms — minus the dental floss feel.

Shop Similar: Vince Camuto High Neck Zip Back One Piece Swimsuit, $150.
Mesh doesn't necessarily mean flimsy fabric when it comes to one-piece swimsuits. Brands now offer sheer mesh paneling that's just as sturdy as the rest of the suit, thanks to nylon and Spandex fabric blends.

Long-Sleeve One-Piece Suits

Shop Similar: Lululemon Long-Sleeve Zip-Back Paddle Suit, $89.
Long-sleeve swimsuits have come full circle from surfer gear to fashion-forward, thanks to a bevy of brands releasing this style. Personally, we couldn't be more thrilled by the options and the coverage.

Shop Now: Club L London After Sun Black Corset Swimsuit, $80.
If you want more support than a traditional swimsuit offers without going full shapewear (seriously, who wants to feel squished on the beach?), we recommend looking for a one-piece suit that has some light boning in the torso. We're not talking full corsetry here, just a smidge of structure to leave you looking snatched.
