14 'Never Again' Aldi Groceries, According to Shoppers

People love Aldi for a multitude of reasons. It has low prices, high-quality products and fun seasonal groceries, like the Clancy's Maple Drizzled Kettlecorn that we can't get enough of right now. Most of the time, Aldi hits, but nobody's perfect, so there's bound to be a miss every now and then. And for those moments, shoppers head to Reddit to be seen — and heard.

Most recently, it was a frozen Pickle Cheese Schupfnudeln that opened up a can of worms on Reddit about which products Aldi shoppers are crazy about.

"What is your absolute no-go at Aldi?" asked u/marleyross401 in the Aldi subreddit.

The original poster (OP) laid some ground rules: It couldn't be something a person didn't like or a diet-busting product. It must be "something so diabolically bad it actually hurt you that it was from Aldi."

To break the ice, the OP gave a rather blunt view of the frozen Aldi-brand riff on the German-Austrian dish, schupfnudeln, a thick dumpling or noodle dish that's supposed to be savory and delicious.

The OP didn't think so.

"[It] tasted & smelled like if a teenage boy’s sweaty gym sock was a food," the Redditor said.

Yikes. Not everyone agreed.

"This is one of my top 5 favorite things at Aldi," replied one. "We added some egg noodles and mushrooms to it, and it's delicious. We hate that it's seasonal."

Another loves it with frozen peas, but someone else is Team OP.

"I got it after all the rave reviews," the person said. "I will say this was a fail in my books — literally spit it out unchewed. I was quite sad. EVERYONE loved it."

So, take the below list of other Aldi misses with a grain of salt (or a frozen pea). Everyone's taste varies, but respondents in this thread won't be including these 14 groceries in their next Aldi haul. To help you find these products, we've grouped them by department. Buyer beware!

Seafood Products

There's something fishy about some seafood products at Aldi, at least according to some Redditors.

Let's start with the frozen Lobster Mac and Cheese, which many people aren't crazy about.

“I was so excited about this, but it’s so fishy," said one.

"Came to say this but in all caps," noted another.

Another frozen seafood dish, the Shrimp & Lobster Bake, has its detractors, too. One shopper said it had an "unpleasant grittiness."

The Frozen Salmon Bags are another hard pass for some, with one declaring "never again."

"They smelled so bad after I baked them [that] I couldn’t even eat them, but my two beagles gobbled them right up," wrote another.

At least the dogs enjoyed them? (As a two-time beagle mom, I can attest that the hounds will eat anything, though.)

Only some of the seafood at Aldi is off (some) people's lists. In fact, one person called the Scottish Fish and Chips their "prized Aldi find." However, they refuse to put a particular condiment on it.

"Never buy the tartar sauce unless you like sour mayo," the person warned.

Snacks

This one could get controversial. Last week, fans hailed Clancy's Cheese Curls even better than Cheetos. This week's Reddit posters are singing a different tune.

"They look like Cheetos but taste like sadness," said one.

Other Clancy's products are also getting a pass from Aldi shoppers.

"Clancy's Doritos and Pringles are over-salted shingles of sadness," a Redditor commented.

Soups

A good soup hits all the right notes on a cold day — and those days are coming. However, some shoppers say certain Aldi soups have missed the mark.

One shopper said the Aldi-brand Potato Soup, a dupe for the popular one by Bear Creek, "smelled absolutely foul when prepared and immediately went into the trash. I will stick to the name brand for those items."

Yikes. Another poster said the broccoli cheddar soup was too "thin and watery" for their tastes.

Chicken Dishes

Seafood isn't the only protein leaving some Aldi shoppers reeling. Two chicken products got called out in the no-go thread comments.

"I used to love the Thai Coconut Chicken, but they changed the recipe, and the new version is unedible," lamented one.

"Park Street Deli Artichoke Stuffed Chicken Breast — very little chicken, too much overly salty mucus sauce," said another. Bonus points for the incredibly detailed description.

Bananas

Produce was noticeably mostly missing from this thread, but not entirely.

"My husband and I were saying last night [that] we love everything at Aldi except the bananas," a poster said. "They’re always too green and ripen and go bad in a day, or they’re already brown."

Alcohol

Some boozy options have left Aldi shoppers buzzing — but not in a good way.

"The hard tea," said one. "I had high hopes for it, and now it just sits in the fridge, taunting me with its undrinkableness."

"I think the hard seltzers are pretty gross, too," added another.

"Their seltzers are also SO bad — like, worse than you'd think," concurred a third.
