Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel

Capetown, South Africa

Tucked in at the base of Table Mountain on the property of a former garden estate, the Mount Nelson Hotel opened to guests in 1899 by Sir Donald Currie, who sought to create a luxury Cape Town stay for first class passengers on his shipping line, the Union-Castle. When it opened, it was the first hotel in South Africa to offer hot and cold running water. It was painted pink in 1918 in celebration of the end of World War I.

Since then, “Mount Nelson Pink” paint was developed to fade to a certain shade between coats. Now owned by Belmond Ltd., the hotel has expanded several times and recently refurbished its East Wing, updating 48 new guest rooms and suites with London-based interior designer Inge Moore.

Don’t miss: Nine acres of lush, English-style gardens; afternoon tea served daily in the lounge; and the Planet Bar, where details like classic, black-and-white tiled floors, sleek lighting, and tailored upholstery combine for the perfect marriage of colonial elegance and modern luxury.

Amanjena

Marrakech, Morocco

Recognize this reflecting pool lined by a series of pink, exaggerated horseshoe arches? That’s because part of the 2010 movie Sex in the City 2 was filmed at this Marrakech suburb hotel. The Moorish-style architecture of Amanjena, which means “peaceful paradise,” takes design cues from nearby Berber village buildings; it’s pink-red color comes from the traditional pise-de-terre (or rammed earth) walls. Notable guests include David Beckham, who celebrated his 40th birthday at the hotel in 2015.

Don’t miss: A pair of hammam suites that open onto their own courtyard gardens and offer a wide selection of spa therapies and access to Amelkis golf course.

The Vinoy Renaissance St. Petersburg Resort & Golf Club

St. Petersburg, Florida

Snowbirds have been flocking to this Florida pink retreat since 1925, after by Pennsylvania businessman Aymer Vinoy Laughner worked with architect Henry L. Taylor and contractor George A. Miller to complete the 375-room Mediterranean-style hotel in just 10 months. On the heels of a period of neglect during the middle of the twentieth century, the hotel closed in 1974. In 1992, following an extensive two-year renovation during which original elements like the main dining room's Pompeiian frescos, the ballroom's ornate plaster detailing, and the cypress ceiling beams were restored, the Vinoy reopened. Today, the expanded hotel welcomes guests with the same sophisticated style it boasted nearly 100 years ago.

The Hamilton Princess Hotel & Beach Club

Bermuda

Bermuda's "Pink Palace" hails from royal beginnings: built in 1885 following a visit to Bermuda by Princess Louise (Queen Victoria's fourth daughter), the hotel owes its name, originally "The Princess," to the British royal family. (The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise in the Canadian Rockies was also named for Princess Louise.) Over the course of its nearly 135 years, the Hamilton Princess has long attracted well-known guests: Mark Twain was a frequent visitor, as was Ian Fleming.

Having recently completed a large-scale renovation, the hotel launched its "Shades of Pink Suites" program, which allows guests to "summer" in Bermuda by renting a suite for up to nine weekends of the season at a special rate.

Don't miss: The Princess Art Collection, which includes pieces from some of the biggest names in pop and modern art; local catch at Marcus', the Princess's waterfront restaurant by celeb chef Marcus Samuelsson; and a spin around the island in a Twizy, one of the hotel's electric cars.

Dupont in 1928 to resemble a pink castle rising from the sand, the Don CeSar remains a bastion of stylish seaside fun on Florida's Gulf Coast nearly 100 years later, having weathered stints as an army hospital and a convalescent center for vets returning from World War II. Florida's Pink Palace has also made appearances on both the big and small screens: the movie Forever Mine and the TV drama Thunder in Paradise filmed at the property, and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers shot an MTV special at the Don CeSar in 1985.
